I would i would mention this for anyone who loves their punk videos… if you’re not “too cool for PBS”, esp on a Saturday night, many PBS stations are airing “The Clash: Revolution Rock” which is bunch of concert performances from 78-82. it’s received positive reviews from what i’ve read so far. Will be released on DVD April 15.

AND Follow-up on SY Daydream Nation cover at Sotheby’s auction
According to Bloomberg: “Among five other artists achieving records was Richter. His 1983 painting Kerze (Candle) featured on the cover of Sonic Youth’s 1988 album Daydream Nation, sold to an American private collector by telephone for 7.1 million pounds, or 8 million pounds with fees. That was more than quadruple the low estimate of 1.8 million pounds.

$16 million… Not bad for something made by merely projecting a photograph onto a small canvas and color-matching; or perhaps it was only just color-matched and painted right over the mounted photo itself.

Should look nice hanging in the Mishka store.

Sorry, Mike, I capped my bid at £7 million.

Back to your Friday Videos selection tho… The Cramps were one of my high school faves. They didn’t make great promo videos (as evidenced by “Garbageman”) but their concerts were spectacular events. Their live performance in “Urgh! A Music War” is one of the movie’s best and was my first time ever even hearing OF them. This was around (’86/’87) in junior high.

Cramps – I Was A Teenage Werewolf (unreleased from Urgh!)
note how Lux picks the mic up off the floor (1:50)

But the “Garbageman” video is notable for featuring Bryan Gregory. He was rumored to collect graveyard dirt in many towns The Cramps toured and represented more of the gothic/occult side of the band. He died in 2001.

More recently, Buddy Miles, Hendrix Band of Gypsies drummer, died this week. In the 80’s, he did a voice for one of the California Raisins commercials.
