Shoey Gooey Summer
It’s looking like a shoegazer of a Summer. My Bloody Valentine’s reunion is old news at this point and it’s also seemingly overshadowing all sorts of other shoegaze goodness. It’s kind of surprising that Swervedriver’s reunion is falling by the wayside in comparison.
Swervedriver has always been a personal favorite of mine when it comes to shoegaze because of their more aggressive nature. So needless to say I think I may actually be more excited about seeing Swervedriver live than MBV for whatever show they end up doing in NYC that won’t cost $500 to attend.
As much as I love reveling in a 90s sense of nostalgia I’m glad that there are still a handful of bands out there keeping the shoegaze torch alive and doing it so well. M83 just put out their new album Saturdays=Youth and as with every single m83 release so far it’s terrific. A synthy shoegaze trip down nostalgia ala the Cocteau Twins.
Both M83 & Swervedriver are hitting Brooklyn this June. M83 will be performing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg on June 3rd, while Swervedriver plays there on June 12th.
