We Are Not The Same…

I am a Martian…

So Tha Carter III “officially” released today (even though I doubt any of you that cared hadn’t already heard it) but rather than going into an in-depth review, I’d rather invite our readers to share their thoughts in the comments. Personally, I think it’s good and pretty much what I expected to hear from Wayne. Despite his limitless catalog of material and overall ridiculous level of hype, he’s yet to release what I consider a timeless & classic album. However, his lyrical creativity and effortless ability is paralleled by very few. Whether it’s a lack of overall focus or perhaps the desire to appease mainstream audiences with a generous dose of easily digestible club tracks, there is something about every Carter album that has plagued them from being on par with an album like Reasonable Doubt or Ready to Die.

I promised not to go into an in-depth review, but after spending the last few days discussing this album to mixed reviews amongst friends, I thought I’d see what some of our readers had to say. Besides, I couldn’t let this killer showcase of my photoshop skills go to waste.

Lil Wayne should rent a room on Mars for good cause. Everyone needs to stop trying to put remixess on the Milli track because Wayne did it too good. Jigga Jay couldn’t even eat that track up and thas my dude. Carter rap harder….

There’s too many songs “for the ladies” on this album. I liked maybe half or less of the songs on this album. Meh. Most recent rap album I’ve liked was Bun B’s II Trill.

  3. Garrett Says:

I think half of it is fucking aces, and the other half is just more and more and more of the same. It’s a perfect example of how most hip-hop albums these days suffer terribly from having about 9 or 12 different producers on the album. There is no consistency and so you end up deleting half the tracks and completely BANGING the rest. Could you imagine if Kanye had produced the whole joint? Or Swizz? Or even Banner?!?!? (I think I’m the only one that LOVES “La La”)

“Let the Beat Build” is my official Summer Jam right now.

yea .. i’ve NEVER been a fan of weezy .. especially now since he’s been talking all types of shit about djs and how all mixtape djs can fuck off. the mixtape djs are what helped propel this sucka mc into stardom and now he’s biting the hand that feeds / fed. i could go on and on about how much of a swagger-jacker and lyrical bubblegum wayne is but i’d rather sit back and let real djs boycott playing his shit and watch as the clipse destroy wayne’s career. as for the album .. i ain’t supportin his stupid, crack-smoking, shit talking, style-biting poo face.

^ wayne was just venting over a situation where a mixtape dj leaked his album. his comments really weren’t addressed to all dj’s.

I listened to that cd alot, and realized that only half the songs are good at all. i wish people would still only use one producer like they used to. Milli has a rediculous amount of bass, which i really like. i only like the first 8-9 songs on the cd, the rest are dumb.

  7. Orko's Shoes Says:

I mean there are at least three recycled verses on there. Meaning they were already heard in other songs on mixtapes. Thats crazy considering how all this guy says is how he freestyles everything and doesn’t write it down. Does that mean in the middle of a “freestyle” he just uses an old verse as a crutch. And that millie shit?? Pop em like orville?? Isn’t that like saying pop em like popcorn?? And whats tough about Nigerian hair?? I’m not trying to be some yo only hip hop that was on stretch and bob in 97 is good shit but I am a little alarmed that people are saying the album lives up to its hype. The best thing on the whole cd is the end of his first verse in Mr.Carter. “long hair don’t even care”. All in all fairly horrible but I guess I was expecting too much. He blew his whole wad on mixtapes and kept the wrong songs in the non leak vault. ok ok i’ll shut up.

I like to think that I partially spawned this post

  9. Orville Redenbachers Says:

dont you know . we pop’em like orville redenbacher. people just dont grasp the depth.
    its entertainment.
    not necessarily just music.

^^^ Genius lessons from the more enlightened.

And yes Dennis, you didn’t PARTIALLY spawn this post.. YOU ARE THIS POST!

My favorite comment so far was the kid talking mad shit on Weezy and then hyping Clipse (there is no “THE”) as having the potential to eclipse Wayne. I like Clipse & the Re-Up Gang but seriously, that’s a good one. Big lulz.

  11. Ian Says:

This is a pretty good album, even though Wayne did have maybe one too many songs for the girls(Ms. Officer). Also I would like to disagree with you that The Carter II isn’t a classic atleast for Wayne fans. The main thing this album is missing is the Fly In Fly Out type joints on the previous two albums. The bonus tracks do a pretty good job of making up for that though.

  12. Ian Says:

    PS
I really want another just Mannie Fresh produced album. Hopefully that comes with a new Hot Boyz project.

  13. ANYF1 Says:

..HAHAH .. “.. my favorite comment .. was the kid..”

.. i only used “the” to connect the sentence and not to say that “the” is part of the group’s name .. semantics.

what would be “a good one” is to see weezy be “eclipsed” by either pusha T or malice, ab liva or even fam-lay in a face to face straight up freestyle battle. wayne would get smashed!

more than one person on here commented about how only half the album is bangin .. and even one even stated at least one or more verse was recycled .. if that’s any indication as to wayne’s inability to keep an entire album poppin then you have half the album on repeat.

weezy isn’t half as good as he has you convinced. but for the record .. who am i to say.

BTW .. just cause ONE dj leaks your album shouldn’t mean you should tell ALL mixtape djs to fuck off. empire should get put on blast for leaking the album and that’s it .. don’t catagorize ALL mixtape djs into the group.

  14. NashInHell Says:

This album is ok…I still think Wayne was at his lyrical all time high with Dedication 2 mixtape, thats about as close as he will ever get to having a “classic”.

I mean it doesnt get any harder than his verse on “Cannon”.

I’m much more into his mixtapes than his official albums…but for me the Carter 3 was better than I was expecting.

I really thought wayne had become oversaturated to the point where the only place for him to go was downhill…and this shit is apparently going to be platinum by the end of the week so I was way wrong about that.

  15. Peter Sellers Says:

    my thoughts:

The songs that are on spin better than any rap proceeding the classic era 95% of the people who read this blog grew up on. Well, maybe besides a select few Eastern Conference records.

I’m feeling it, yeah the club tracks are weak, but the stoner raps are dead on. And so what — He has a couple recycled verses, but I’ve never heard too many rappers that didn’t, including Big L, Eminem, indie rappers galore, blah blah blah. Dude will probably O.D.B. pretty soon anyway. Just saying, if it wasn’t for a generation’s 90s nostalgia and snobery, this might be considered as close to classic as Supreme Clientele or Infamous.. Especially if you were fourteen again. I’d like to have been able to experience Star Wars raps at that age.
