Over on our site, we’re going to be previewing all the tees from Fall 1-2008 and giving you a little background behind the designs. Each day (taking breaks on Saturday & Sunday), we’ll feature one new t-shirt from Fall 1 right here on our front page.

Since this season’s collection is called Skyway Trippers, I thought it was best to start with the Skyway Trippers tee! So what is a Skyway Tripper? Well, it’s our take on an intergalactic assault team of space knights…think King Arthur meets Macross, Voltron, Rom, or even Gatchaman. The Skyway Trippers are our elite squadron of heroes, keeping all aspects of your cosmos safe! The design to your left is the Skyway Trippers crest, their elite emblem.

The design was based in part on the Israeli Special Forces emblem, which we modified to meet our own unique language. Like all military crests and emblems, each component has a meaning. I like to keep an air of mystery to our designs, and let people construct a more personal meaning when the real one is not obvious, but I will share some insight here. (Not every little thing, but enough!) Simon, our beloved figure of Death, sits atop three symbolic animals: Bear, Adder, and Wolf. The Bear and Adder are common design motifs for us at this point. “Mishka” obviously mean Bear, and the Adder represents our Death Adder. The Wolf, on the other hand, is more symbolic of Simon himself. The lone wolf stands outside the pack with his own singular vision, like the one eye of Simon. The Russian text in the banner being sliced in half reads “Space Knight”. Why is it being cut by Simon? Well, as I mentioned before, it’s for you to infer…
