Presenting Nick Catchdubs & Mr. Ducker’s Radio Friendly Unit Shifter!
Download Radio Friendly Unit Shifter Here!
If there’s one thing we love over here at Mishka is introducing you to new music and getting out some great mixes to you guys who support us! I think it’s plainly obvious we grew up on 90s alternative radio, so getting to work with one world’s greatest DJs and good friend of the label on a mix of this magnitude was a dream come true. I’ll leave the description to Nick Catchdubs.
My good friend Mr. Ducker isn’t a DJ, but he always wanted to make an ultimate ’90s tape, something that brought a mixshow vibe to alt nation sounds. When he asked me to get down with his dream and collaborate, we delved deep into our middle and high school record collections (and used CD bargain bins) and brainstormed new ways to present all the alternative music we grew up on. We were inspired by DJ Spinbad’s impossibly fun ’80s pop mixes: big hits next to unexpected favorites with lots of movie dialogue and interludes for jokes, all smashed up in a dance party megamixxx. Picking from hundreds of beloved Buzz Bin jams was easier said than done (sorry Superdrag, you’ll make Vol. 2!), but with the Mishka crew’s annual trip to Magic in Las Vegas giving us an actual deadline, we finally finished this badmotorfinger as a giveaway CD for their new season. Even with double digit-old tunes, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter feels right on time, connecting the dots between Sonic Youth breakbeats, weeded Lollapalooza rap, gloriously fuzzed-out one hit wonders and much more. No irony, no empty nostalgia, just a lot of music we love that shaped what we do today. They used to play King Missile on the radio! In America! Download and enjoy. – Nick Catchdubs
I couldn’t have said it better myself or asked for a better mix to capture such a precious little slice in time. Plus Nick kept true to the 90s and snuck in that all important hidden track! Shhhh!

I don’t know what to say dude, you seem to be the only one having an issue. Try a different browser perhaps. Or trash your browsers preferences and restart it and try again.

Awesome tracklist, takes me back to skateboarding, first beers, pulling bongs, and trying to grow my hair long in high school.

NYC never had a 106.3 (Modern Rock by the Jersey shore) type station. And where I lived you couldn’t clearly pick up any local college stations except for WSOU. Besides trading tapes,I remember suffering through Z100 just to get to hear an occasional Alternative track. I remember when Q104.3 launched as Alternative Rock Radio, playing the same exact set list at the exact same time each day for about a week before it could get DJs. I have to admit Alternative Rock Radio got really old and boring really quickly for me. While I loved some of these bands I hated so many others, there was no middle ground. It’s funny that now bands i truly despised growing up I can appreciate just on nostalgia for the sound.

Not working for me either, when decompressing the rar all the files come out extremely small.

again, i don’t know what to tell you. It’s working fine on my end downloading from Zshare on multiple machines and for others. I’d try another browser.
It’s on our Doombox as well, if you just want to listen to it streaming.

It appears that the download has be removed and I couldn’t find it on the doombox. Does it exists anywhere else? On a similar note, I’m interested in this genre of mixing. Is there anything else out there? Thanks!

The download I assume is still fine and no one deleted it. Zshare however has been acting up all weekend endlessly cycling back whenever it’s about to start a download.

The zshare link doesn’t fork for me either.
If anyone who’s got the file could place it somewhere else… thanks in
advance.

So it isn’t any of you, it’s Zshare… Looks like they’ve given up running their site. Every link uploaded prior to October 2008 seems to have this problem.
Google Blog search the mix.. I’m pretty sure other people have taken it and placed it for upload elsewhere besides Zshare.
November 8th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I consider myself a pretty decent Googler and it’s nowhere to be found. Not even a bittorrent.
November 9th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Yep Sal,
same 4 me.
All the related web pages I found, point to this blog or to the same
zshare link.
Did also drop a note to zshare staff almost one week ago, but no luck so far…

Why not include “Radio-Friendly Unit Shifter” instead of “Sliver?” Since, you know, it is the title of your comp after all??
