Metal Race 2 Recap!

cimg1041.jpg

All I have to say is; Metal Race 2, what a night. I’m still sore. Thom delivered with this race. Our course was about 30 miles. It began at 9:30 and I crossed the finish first at 11:49pm. Each checkpoint was a graveyard, including the WTC site!

At each checkpoint you had to do a task like sign the manifest in your own real blood, bring roadkill, shotgun a beer, get slapped by a groupie, be anointed with fake blood and let all but 30 psi out of your tire. At the bottom of the page is Doug’s map. I’ve got a pedometer in the works as well.

I think around 40 people entered it and only 15 finished it. It was the first race that I’ve gotten first place in and riding with Doug and Yatika was no easy task. Both of those dudes are always top 5 in every race and I’ve never hustled so hard in my life. But, because Jack is so metal, his bonus points bumped him from 10th place to 1st! I pulled in 2nd place after answering a few questions wrong, but what can I say? Jack had a massive gaping wound on his arm and had drank a whole bottle of Jager before the race!

I have a ton of pictures in my Flickr stream, so check em out!

dude, i was in serious disbelief when you were telling me about this race.

“oh but they gave us latex gloves and plastic bag to pick up the roadkill”

Jack’s arm looked so fucking nasty. I watched it happen to. They gave us razor blades and said “cut yourself” and Jack pulled some fucking suicidal shit. His arm split open and he screamed…

I listened to Bathory and Dissectiont the whole night.

looks like someone posted youtube clips of bike race in brooklyn
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRYXtiqVu78

seriously tho, that looks like a lot of bike night fun. is participation invitation only?

  4. Prolly Says:

Not by any means. It’s not really advertised through main media outlets. More like word of mouth. That and posters in bike shops and fliers. Anyone can do it.

Alleycats have been going on in NYC for decades. Monster Track is probably the most famous, as is the Halloween Race, the 4th of July race and Cranksgiving… most riders are on fixed gears [track bikes] – but a few people ride road bikes.

  5. rn Says:

what takes longer – riding the course or completing the tasks?
do all alleycats have checkpoints with activities or are most race-oriented? whoever organized this is brilliant.

  6. Prolly Says:

The race. The tasks don’t take long and it all depends on what kind of race it is. The more competitive alleycats usually just have people signing manifests.

    Thom throws a great race!
