Thanks for starting my day off with the Cramps!

Man, I saw Guitar Wolf open for the Cramps about 8-9 years ago. Not smart on the Cramps part since Guitar Wolf freakin’ blew the house down and then nuked Chicago in the process. Cramps were old, tired and boring enough for me and the crew to leave after 3 songs. THEY went downhill.

Thanks for the Gories, easily one of the best bands ever. Mick Collins…damn, wotta voice.

Man, I SO regret not seeing the last time Guitar Wolf was in town. Bass wolf died like a week after they were here!

since we’re on a punk-themed Halloween, we shouldn’t leave out
    Ramones – Pet Sematary (1989)

Dee Dee wrote in his autobiography, Lobotomy: Surviving the Ramones:

It was tough recording the Brain Drain album because everyone took their shit out on me. I dreaded being around them. It drove me away–I didn’t even end up playing on the album. Everybody in the band had problems; girlfriend problems, money problems, mental problems.

Halloween NYC show tonight: the Jerry Only version of Misfits at BB King ($30 tix).
Zappa used to do a famed Halloween show in the late 70s & early 80s at Palladium.

In regards to the Cramps: I wanted to use the new MTV Video site for this Friday Morning Videos but the only Cramps video they had was something that I can only assume is a brand new Cramps song, or relatively new (recorded past 2000). Wow was it awful… it’s so fuckin’ sad when band as good as they were misses the point when their shtick is no longer working and how silly and irrelevant they look and sound.

what’s with The Cramps pile on today??? i don’t think it’s a “shtick” which probably why they haven’t changed since A Date With Elvis and Stay Sick! LPs. I blame the move to LA for the image change – the transvestite zombie S&M look. Prior to that, they were great as a 2nd or 3rd tier NY band. In the late 80s, Lux was drinking bottles of wine during the shows. I’ve always wondered if Perry Farrell saw any of those shows and stole that move as part of his Jane’s Addiction shtick.
