Choice Is Yours Vol.1
Since the Bloglin’s readership is exponentially rising and you guys are finally starting to use the comments I’ve been toying with starting a new weekly music segment/game called Choice Is Yours. Where two seminal, life defining, universally praised classic albums are pitted against each other and you have to make the choice if only one could exist which would it be? Which is more important to you or just hold more cultural significance? I’m gonna start things off with a really hard one, Choice Is Yours…

Wu-Tang Clan – Enter the 36 Chambers (1993)
Vs.
If you could only save one which would it be? Make your choice (if you can) in the comments and say why!

The Wu-Tang because I’m a hip hop-idiot. It’s just the best hip hop album ever.

Tough one but i’d go with Nirvana. why? They open up the gates for people to accept/fund/sign more alternative music whether it be punk to metal they paved the way for many of them…

Which of your children do you love the most?
November 23rd, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Exactly!! *Ghost Voice*
November 23rd, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Alright, fine, if you’re going to make me do this…36 Chambers because “7th Chamber—Part II” has got the dirtiest bass line in rap history.

But the distortion on Nevermind is as close to perfect as distortion can get! RZA or Steve Albini?!?

Wu Forver Hoe! Fruck a Nirvana!
November 23rd, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Ease you what heard this album for the first time last year?
November 23rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
I wouldn’t choose, I’d make a mashup tape and hang out with aoki, benji madden and the cobradick
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Nirvana, my first ever album. That’s gotta be worth something right?
November 23rd, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Here’s my 2¢.
Nevermind’s impact can still be felt positively and negatively in rock music
36 Chambers’ influence has all but been abandoned by modern hip hop.

36 chambers. I would have had the pixies anyways but nothing comes close to being like the WU. On top of that all the solo albums after are for the most part homeruns. Dirty > Dave Grohl.
Still though this is the type of question that would make the chess computer DEEP BLUE catch on fire.

I’m terribly torn but I think I’m going with 36 Chambers on this one.

Nevermind wins for me, just because of the waves and crests of the record. There’s more range and variety to get you through the isolation of the island. Like some days, I’d feel like bobbing my head while listening to Breed, Lithium, and Lounge Act. While the other days when I’m depressed about the fact that I’ll never get another slice of pizza or vagina again I can contemplate drowning myself while listening to Something In The Way.

I clearly misread the post btw and took the deserted island approach. I’d still take Nevermind anyway.

36 chambers is the pick for me. but that is solely because I’ve been a hiphop head for over 10 years.
and nirvana never really did it for me. maybe I should give it a spin.
November 25th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
36 Chambers, because it’s sad to listen to it, and then listen to what hip hop became today.
36 chambers was a phenomenal….Nevermind was great too, but it killed hair metal, and I love hair metal!

Wu all the way!!!! That album blew my mind when I first heard it and stiil continues to today. When I first heard Nevermind I was like …..meh! and nowadays it just sounds like muzak, plus how do you follow an album like Bleach anyway??????

Wu Son clique is thick this shit right here cant even be compared
But yo on the real i love hip hop so as rock but more hip hop cuz i been into hip hop since i was 5 so its hard when you guys compare rock to hip hop you know they have both different understanding of life, and art forms of each one are different from each other so guys try to compare hip hop with hip hop, and rock with rock cuz cuz its hard to choose.
Peace yo and im out
One Love.

this is pretty tough. but i’d have to go with nirvana. nirvana never had a bad record and wu only had two really good ones and everything else was kinda half ass.

so funny everyone is saying the same thing about both records depending on which one they pick. So that means to fans culturally these are the same. They both are groundbreaking in each circle to that circle.
From a mainstream perspective, Nirvana began what we know as the “alternative” music movement and made it ok for frat boys to behave like homeless squatting heroin addicts…atleast on the weekends. And that changed the entire way that the record industry did A&R, marketed, represented, supported and awarded ALL alternative artists including rap. So i have to go with Nirvana.

[...] The Game is simple… if only one could exist which would it be? What’s more important… personal relevance, cultural significance, or simply being the better album all other things aside? Choice is yours… [...]
