True Crap
Since we’re all post happy about Vamps this past week, has anyone seen HBO’s True Blood?
Cause I have, all 12, one hour episodes within in 3 days! Yeah it was pretty intense. What else is there to do in the suburbs of Detroit, MI during Thanksgiving weekend besides HBO On-Demand? I’ve been known for obsessively watching TV shows on DVD or On-Demand, such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Californication, Dexter, and so on, and currently am obsessively netflixing Six Feet Under. There’s nothing more satisfying then having the next episode at your finger tips.
I had never seen True Blood until this past week, after hearing great reviews from one of my roommates and various viral marketing throughout NYC sparked my interest.
TB turned out to be entertaining, but pretty much the most annoying show I’ve seen in a while. Short of telling you about the plot (go read on the website), this season was based on a who-dun-it murder caper infused with blood thirsty vamps and back-woods yokels, set in the outskirts of Louisiana. If it weren’t for the sex scenes & some vampire fantasy stories, I don’t think this show would have much substance. There are a few good gore scenes and all the vampire scenes are really campy. Then there’s a love story between an innocent (read: virgin) southern girl and an ex confederate soldier turned Vampire, which was also quite irritating. It was kind of disappointing all in all. And since this was made by Alan Ball, the creator of Six Feet Under and writer of American Beauty I had high expectations. So, yet another vamp let down. This show sucks.

I tried to get amped up for this show, but not even the ads did anything for me. Thanks for taking the bullet and reviewing.
Six Feet Under still stands as one of the greatest television shows of our time.

You know how I knew this show would suck? The second I read the words vampire & New Orleans. Could there be a cheesier more unimaginative setting to do a vampire story in?

The true problem is Anna Paquin. But also sped up footage – that instantly makes anything look retarded.

Just curious…which suburb of Detroit are you from?

i watched the show all season, and after each one i would say to myself “that was retarded, im done with this”. but then the next week, id have an hour to kill and id watch another. the accents killed it for me. i hate tara, and the fucking “murder caper” was a joke. they pretty much pulled a name out of a hat.
hopefully it’ll get canceled and alan ball can move on to something good.

I was at my girlfriends parents place in Bloomfield, MI.
I didnt grow up there, I’m from MA.
But yeah after each episode, we would be like uggggh, this is so dumb. Anna Paquin and the guy who played her brother were so awful and annoying. Not to mention the Billy the Vampire saying Sookie every 3 minutes.

For all the crap that’s on TV these days, I feel this show isn’t bad at all. I can see why you don’t like it, but I got over those aspects of the program and I enjoy the show; wanting more after each episode.
I, myself went into the show with lowered expectations than normal. I actually thought it was going to be horrible, so maybe that’s why I don’t mind the campiness at times. It definitely took me a couple episodes to get into it.
Personally, when I have high hopes for something, even if it’s ok, I still find it to be mediocre at best. Maybe, since you were so pumped on it, if it wasn’t anything but amazing you weren’t going to like it regardless. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I am stoked though HBO picked it up for another season.

In an earlier comment regarding vampire shit I said I like anything with vampires in it. I don’t include TV shows when I say that. Movies with vampires, generally, fucking awesome. TV shows with vampires, generally, complete utter drivel.
