Do You Read Sutter Kane?
A few days ago I watched In The Mouth of Madness, one of the few John Carpenter films I had never seen. I seriously can’t stop thinking about how awesome of a movie it was and why on Earth I waited so long to see it! My god do I love Lovecraftian Horror! Hell It was so good that it’s made me want to revisit some more of Carpenter’s later films like Ghosts of Mars. But maybe that would be a mistake on my part… anyone?
For those of you who have never seen it, In the Mouth of Madness centers around an insurance agent sent to investigate a publishers claim on a policy when their prized author, Sutter Kane goes missing while writing his latest and greatest Horror masterpiece.
Seriously, how amazing of a name is Sutter Kane for a Horror novelist!? Haha.

This one of the first movies I got when I started Netflix! Sam Neill is so frakiking good in it and the Lovecraft references are abound!
Sutter Kane has GOT to be a nod to Stephen King.
I did some digging (aka Wikipedia) and Hobbs End, the “fictional” town in the movie, most likely derives its name from “Hobs,” an old nickname for the Devil that is used in a slew of other movies/stories. Pretty awesome:

ha – I caught this when it opened in the theaters! The movie was a total freak-out while I was watching it. The part where he’s driving down the road and passes the bike rider twice freaked the shit outta me

I really miss the demonic and supernatural horror movies of old. Most attempts over the last 10 years have really sucked due to reliance on bad CG, shitty scripts that try too hard to be cool and nu-metal soundtracks. This was one of the last of it’s kind.
Another good Lovecraft movie is From Beyond.

A good portion of the 90′s for me was spent looking out for the newest horror flicks on the new release shelf of Blockbuster. This one was highly anticipated then, and is still one of my favorite horror movies of the late 90′s. Another movie that comes to mind about great horror movies including alternate universe time rifts of the 90′s was Event Horizon.

Event Horizon is one of my faves as well.

If you like Event Horizon I recommend checking out “Sunshine” which came out in 2007. Really good Sci-Fi thriller that fumbles the ball at the end but is great for a good hour and 20 minutes.
Anyone with any other 90s Horror recommendations?
