Waiting on the Chef.

raekwon3

While everyone is creaming over the new Doom album I’m steady laying in the cut waiting patiently for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2. The slated drop is June/July of this summer however, this album has been in the sights since 2006 and Wu members have never been know for their punctuality. The Chef can take as long as he needs as far as I’m concerned considering CL2 is a follow up to his magnum opus and best Wu solo release. If the two currently leaked tracks are any indication of the overall quality of CL2 then shit is going to be juicy.

I’ve never thought that Raekwon got the burn he deserved. Even though he was one of the most gifted of the founding Wu members people always seemed to peg him as that guy that rolled with Ghostface. The Chef was never flamboyant and always spit pure street knowledge, unadulterated. You could pull the beat out from under any Lex Diamond track and you’d instantly have books on tape that would sell at Chapters/Indigo in the true crime section.

Let’s take a moment to listen to Raekwon lace an Alchemist track with some more of that gully shit.

OB4CL is in my mind the best Wu solo project. Iron Man and Liquid Swords are a close second (a very close second), but CL takes the cake.

PS: That Wu Ooh song is FIRE!

Tobin that really isn’t true at all. When “OB4CL” dropped Rae got plenty of praise and love and most people viewed Ghostface as more of a sidekick to Rae than his own MC. it wasn’t until Ghost dropped “Supreme Clientele” that he crawled out of Rae’s shadow and well helped make the Wu relevant again. Yes the tables have surely turned but that’s Rae’s own fault for only ever putting out one good album while Ghost just kept them coming.

Actually I felt that once Ghost dropped Iron Man is when people knew he had the hot shit.

I kind of see Tobin’s point though. Like of all of the Wu solo projects, it’s Meth and ODB that are widely accept by both hip hop heads and mainstream audiences. White kids from the burbs that listen to Offspring never gave a fuck about OB4CL.

Really, it was only the core hip hop community that called OB4CL ‘revolutionary’….which it is.

Also, I think Dennis Coles is better than Corey Woods.

All I’m saying is I think that Raekwon’s no slouch and I’m no fair-weather fan.
I think the lack of success in his last two albums can be attributed to poor promotion and management trying to steer him into a more commercial demographic.

Now that Rae is on Aftermath with some true heads in his corner he’ll be free to reaffirm himself as one of the Wu Generals to anybody.
