Review: Demon’s Claws – Lost In the Desert (Demos & Outakes Vol. 1)

Demon’s ClawsLost In the Desert [Demos & Outakes Vol. 1] (2009) [Telephone Explosion]// Grade: A

For anyone who are not familiar with this band, they are a group who I would describe as a band with such honesty it’s kind of overwhelming. Their sound encapsulates the essence of garage punk, country, blues, psych, and just good ol’ rock’n'roll like the way it should be.

Lost In The Desert includes some tracks that were on a limited cassette release entitled Sick Chili (yes you read it right cassette release, only 100 made!) Hearing these songs coupled with unreleased jewels puts you in a different place. I picture this album to be the music that played in the minds of each person in the Manson family while they were tripping out in the Spahn Ranch compound. From track to track, Demon’s Claws’ raunchy lyrics, fast paced distortion and twangy guitars keeps you wanting to go into a psychotic trance.

Not only does this album make me feel excited about all the new music to come in the remainder of 2009, but it also restores my faith in what I deem to be true genre of punk these days. Not pretentious and not half-assed, this album is a sure winner and an unlikely masterpiece in today’s world of subpar mediocre music.
