War of the Worlds Cover Gallery

With the family 300 miles away, my roommates gone, and my married friends cooking me dinner, I’ve been able to spend Easter sipping whiskey and rearranging my collection of sci-fi paperbacks. Over two decades of raiding garage sales, thrift shops, and the occasional estate sale, I’ve accumulated a plethora of classic sci-fi novels. Used paperbacks are the best; they fit in the ass pocket of your jeans, smell amazing, and cost 25 cents at most thrifts. In my experience, the sci-fi books that appear most frequently on second-hand shelves are Clarke’s Rendevous With Rama and Wells’ seminal War of the Worlds. The book that launched a thousand Martian tropes has been in publication since 1898 and with that history comes a collection of incredible covers which also reflects the history of sci-fi art. I have no idea what this website is about, but Chez Zeus has an incredible gallery of War of the Worlds cover art and interior illustrations. Pretty awesome stuff my friends. The 70s and 80s are my favorite, but shit gets kinda boring in the 21st century. Easter! Let’s go!

When the movie came out they reprinted the 1960 edition with the Edward Gorey illustrations. It’s pretty sweet and probably still available.

That’d be awesome, Hate. I have a ‘77 Bantam “Ubik” that’s one of my favorite covers if all time. Aerosol can and boobs.
