Review: Telepathe – Dance Mother

TelepatheDance Mother (2009) [IAMSOUND] // Grade: C+

This one frustrating album. Half the time it feels like you’re not listening to songs but a bohemian open mic version of Casey & His Brother, that takes itself way too seriously.

The other half sounds like well thought out and executed songs, rather than artsy meandering. When they choose to fully submit to David Sitek’s (TV On the Radio) production, Telepathe create some outstanding ethereal tinged synth-pop. Tracks like “So Fine”, “In Your Line” & “Can’t Stand It” are so goddamn good that it’s just pains you that Telepathe can’t always sound like this. Maybe on the follow-up?
