Giant ‘Blob’ in Outer Space

Friday, April 24th, 2009

blob

So I know I’ve been leaning pretty hard on the space shit lately…I’m not even sorry. There’s so much cool stuff going on out there. I guess, technically, there’s so much cool stuff that went on out there billions and billions of years ago that we’re just now starting to be able to see, but still. Space Yesteryear is killing it.

This one just in: scientists have found something out in space that—other than identifying it as a ‘radition-emitting “blob”‘—is utterly unidentifiable.

The ‘blob’ is from something like 12 billion years ago and is among only three other observed space-objects that are even remotely the same age. Shit is old.

Strangely enough, the giant super-duper kicker is just this: the blob is some huge shit. Approximately the size of the Milky Way. The reason that’s got scientists so baffled is that, according to the big-bang-slash-universal expansion theories, nothing was supposed to be even near that big that early in the game. Like…by a lot.

So…what the fuck is it? For now, just a blob.

Bosstown

Friday, April 24th, 2009

I was at the Springsteen show in Boston on Wednesday night and this happened. During the “request block,” someone tried to stump them with “I Wanna Be Sedated” but Steve Van Zandt is basically a garage/punk historian, so he huddled E Street up and the band followed his lead. Some dude from the Dropkick Murphys got engaged on stage and the rest of the Murphys came out during the encore and did a few numbers with the Boss. I’m not super into Dropkick, but it’s Boston so of course the place went berserk. Converge was also there hanging out with Max Weinberg’s son. Great fucking show.

2009-04-23-dinosaur-penny-mishka

I ran into Pink Eyes from Fucked Up on the J Train and he was friendly as hell. He even gave me this awesome dinosaur penny from that place in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. What happened to the days when Darby Crash was making everybody give him stuff and burning them with cigarettes?

Thank you Pink Eyes!

Review: Chain & The Gang – Down With Liberty… Up With Chains!

Chain & The GangDown With Liberty… Up With Chains! (2009) [K] // Grade: A

Chain & The Gang, Ian Svenonius latest band is probably his closest to returning to the “Gospel Yeah! Yeah!” sound of the Make-Up since their break-up. Mixing Arthur Lee 60′s-esque  psych with a heavy helping of Garage & R ‘n B, Chain & The Gang take it one step further from revivalist to dead-pan Mock ‘N Roll that perfectly suits the bands lyrical agenda.

The lyrics are unbelievably self-absorbed, pretentious, full of pseudo-intellectual ideals and conspiracy theories that are amusing and utterly amazing. As always Svenious is hard to take seriously, yet entirely believable in his critique of not only societal institutions and their practices, but any self-serving idealistic call to arms against them. Tongue planted firmly in cheek Down With Liberty is a discourse on why the revolution always fails, as much as it is a love letter to the concept of revolution.

final_dlr_show_flyer

Unless you’ve got something really really important to attend (doubtful), this party is going to be the place to be. The “Aleister Crowley of this hip-hop/rave, design/illustration shit” is having his (first?) solo show at the Christopher Henry Gallery from 8pm-Midnight tomorrow. Come out and see the next level shit that Dust has been working on in preparation for this show. As the name implies, it really is going to be the Best of the Beast. Don’t get caught sleeping or else you’ll be spending Friday morning reading all the “cool guy” blogs and kicking yourself for being a lame-o.

RSVP here. Dont’ say we didn’t tell you so.

Cream City

Milwaukee Bicycle Co. has been sponsoring me for over a year now and in that time I’ve developed a few products for them. While my riding style is fit more for the Bruiser, they wanted to get me on one of their Cream City track bikes. Even though I enjoy beating the shit out of my trick bike, I still enjoy riding a traditional track or road frame.

It’s a great ride and since I have freakishly long legs, it’s hard to find an off the shelf bike that fits me properly. The bikes are hand built by Waterford in the USA for a third of the price of their custom track bikes. The shop Milwaukee uses to paint their frames does the best job I’ve ever seen on a bike for the pricepoint!

Came out looking nice for sure!

My parts bin was overflowing with spare bits, so luckily I didn’t have to spend any money on the build.
