Review: Star Trek Movie 09′

Star Trek is the poor man’s Star Wars. I’m standing firm on this opinion. I’m sorry if any feelings are hurt however, strongly worded responses claiming otherwise are wrong. If you see this movie and you enjoy it then you are wrong. Only one point is awarded to Star Trek 09′ and that is J.J. Abrams’ reference to Delirious when Kirk is caught trying to have sex with a green chick.

That’s kinda what I figured. Star Trek is all about character and conflicting ideas and Star Wars is a lot about adventure and action. I will never accept anyone but Nimoy as Spock.

Best review of this I read was from Tim Heidecker:
“The new Star Trek should be called Star Trek Babies because it’s Muppet Babies in space.”

i haven’t seen such polarizing reviews since the elections. I’m going to check it for shits and giggles.

I have this feeling I’m really going to disagree with both of you Dr. No and Oh Mars.

I’m a TNG fan for life (never could really pierce the ‘badness’ of the original) so maybe I’m predisposed to the irreverence already, but I really, really liked the movie. Sylar and the dude who plays Kirk do a great job. A really great job, actually.
I don’t want to spoil anything since it’s so early still, but, hands-down, the best Star Trek movie since Generations. (Like that was hard, but still.)
And! Just to take the bait, I think Star Trek and Star Wars are completely apples and oranges. Past the obvious similarities in the titles, they are totally different and just don’t relate to each other. IMO, of course.
@MPTC & LS & TC: Go see it. The Smallville scenes are pretty rad. :) I have now typed no less than 6 teaser sentences but deleted all of them for fear of spoiling any surprises. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed: it’s definitely a JJ Abrams joint.

Dr. No actually loves this movie. I sat beside him through every “dammit Jim” and “that would be illogical” comment. He was gigglin his muthafuckin ass off. He loves it. He’s just a hater, which is possibly the only thing he loves more than Star Trek.
ps, he’s never actually seen any Star Wars movies, because his parents resented the religious allegory.

i’ve never watched any of the series but have enjoyed a few of the movies. i thought the characters and acting were all good, especially the supporting cast. bones, chekov, and scotty really made the movie for me.
SPOLIER WARNING!!!!!!

I loved this movie, i loved the previews (Year 1, Land of the Lost!), i liked it all and was thoroughly entertained! Maybe it was the excitement of being in Times Square and getting blazed in the women’s bathroom 10 minutes prior (blow the smoke down the flushing toilet and yes I’m still 15) I’m especially partial to the jungle love scenes between hot Spock and Uhuru.
