The Most Inglourious of Basterds!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s excited for Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds which follows the exploits of an all Jewish military unit assigned with hunting down, torturing and killing Nazis in occupied France during WWII. Besides my general excitement for a new Tarantino flick, I’m also looking forward to Eli Roth’s return to film… but this time, strictly as an actor.
Roth has been one of my favorite Horror writer/directors since he debuted with a modern cult-classic in Cabin Fever. He then shot to fame with Hostel and came back down to Earth with the decent, but less than inspired Hostel II. Since then the only thing we’ve seen from Roth was his faux-trailer Thanksgiving before Tarntino’s Death Proof, along with a bit acting role in the film. Whatever your feelings are towards Tarantino’s you can’t deny his ability to cast a part, so I’m really looking forward to Eli Roth probably being as obnoxious as is humanly possible while flexing his acting chops alongside Brad Pitt in Inglourious Basterds.
Fangoria just posted the first part of an interview with Roth where he discusses working on Inglourious Basterds, dealing with the unexpected fame Hostel brought him, the backlash of it’s sequal and the multitude of projects that are now left up in the air that he was attached to. Stay tuned for part 2 where Roth discusses his upcoming directorial and writing projects which include a Sci-Fi movie by the name of Cotton and a remake of schlock classic The Funhouse! Hopefully those actually see the light of day.

(Mars has been drinking) Movie nerds who take a shot and make it mainstream are always admirable. We can hate and hate (it’s our job as consumers) but these cats are really doing it. Cabin Fever is a fucking great movie. I honestly have never seen any of the Hostels, but am AMPED for his go at sci-fi.
Basterds is going to rule. I fucking hated Kill Bill vol. 1 and almost walked out of the theater (never saw vol. 2), but this movie is going to literally be about violently killing Nazis. What could go wrong?

Im really in two minds about Eli Roth. First of he is living every fanboys dream, so props to the man for that, and I do like Cabin Fever (hated Hostel didnt see the sequel) and thought he was great in Death Proof. BUT he comes across as being really obnoxious and kind of an asshole!?
I hope to god he doesnt fuck up Funhouse, that is an underrated classic. Basterds should be entertaining at least.
Lastly:
That is one sweet fuckin shotgun!!!!

I can’t fathom how anyone could like Cabin Fever but not enjoy Hostel? What didn’t you about it? Besides being ridiculously over the top, I Thought it was some pretty hilarious social commentary. But I agree, Roth is an obnoxious asshole, that’s the character he’s carved out for himself, but all and all he’s still a likable obnoxious asshole… at least he is to me.
He’s kind of like Neil Patrick Harris’ character on How I met Your Mother… the Broski you can stand.
also Oh Mars: Why in the world you almost walk out of KIll Bill!?? And Kill Bill 2 is the better of the two movies.

Hey Crook!
Hostels’ Porkys style start is what annoyed me about it, I love the cinematography in all the torture scenes and obviously the grue, but just a little bit immature overall. Fantastic idea and social commentary too like you say, just can’t seem to seperate the man from his work tho?!
I’m w/ you bout Kill Bill too. Part 2 really is so much better than the first (especially the trailer sword fight) but Part 1 is certainly not worthy of walking out of.

Brother Darkness: The whole Porky’s style beginning to Hostel is the most essential part of the movie… It’s the reason you as the viewer WANT these dudes to get tortured beyond belief.
