Yesterday was easily the hottest day of our 2009 Toronto summer season yet. The agenda included park beers and oysters thanks to Chenyip’s true understanding of birthday decadence. After the park came the BBQ and after the BBQ came time for the few that weren’t suffering from sun stroke to head down to Toronto’s Dundas Square for North by North East’s free GZA and Cool Kids concert. Things seemed pretty pedestrian at first with the square chalk full of kids, white dreads, and people from Buffalo…all was normal in downtown Toronto.

GZA played a pretty decent set in which he hijacked every big Wu anthem and censored the shit out of them.

I think he referred to women as ‘bitches’ at one point and the sound tech quickly pulled out his beat as a slap on the wrist. Don’t be so crass GZA.

Right around the end of the set I looked over to my left where shit was getting realer.

The dude seemed completely unfased by the fact that he had been stabbed as he text messaged away until he realized the severity of the huge fucking gaping wound in his lower back. The full (?) story is here.

After stabby was taken away Bébé’s Kids went on stage and killed it with some new and old.

The moral of the story is I have a camera now and if you get stabbed I will creep on you.
