The Box

Here’s the first trailer for Richard Kelly’s The Box, based on the 1970 short story “Button, Button,” by Richard Matheson (one of Stephen King’s greatest influences). The moral story is about a financially unlucky couple who is given a box with a button on it by a mysterious stranger named Mr. Steward. Steward explains that if they press the button they will be given a million dollars, but someone they don’t know will die. I won’t give away the ending of the story, but I have a strong feeling Kelly changed it up a bit for the big screen (the story is only 15 or so pages long). Regardless, it does look like an awesome movie. Kelly (Donnie Darko, Southland Tales) needs some redemption in my book; I couldn’t get through the jumbled and miserable Southland Tales.

Looks cool, Im definitely going to check that out.

Im thinking that maybe with unknown actors it would have more of an impact though, I just don’t buy Cameron Diaz in a southern accent haha.

They did a Twilight Zone episode, or maybe it was Outer Limits, based on this story. Curious to see how they can stretch that into 90 min….kinda.

  3. Oh Mars Says:

It was a Twilight Zone, from the ’80s series. Never saw it though.

My god this movie has been in production for so many years! I’m glad it’s finally seeing the light of day. Is it me or does anyone else seem to remember that when this film was originally announced that Eli Roth was working on it WITH Kelly? Or did i imagine that?

  5. Oh Mars Says:

@Crook Originally, Roth was directing and Kelly was producing. They were supposed to write the script together…but I dunno why Roth backed out.
I also just found out that the Arcade Fire scored this movie, pretty dope.

Dude if you was a true juggalo you would know that Milenko aint in no box, thats the riddlebox. I mean no what?

Well what’s to be said about this trailer other then that, it is truely awful how can you make that into a compelling film really! A film about a box that would kill someone you don’t know to get you a mill’ sorry but i bet 98.9% of the worlds population would hit that button before even sweating a single drop. Horror/Thriller films have completely lost it in the last couple of years turning into either completely awful remakes like friday the 13th or just horrible attempts at sticking their middle finger up at the politics of the u.s seriously Kelly has completely lost it Donnie Darko looked like a complete lucky break for him but now he has the pressure of Hollywood he has failed hard and fast! This my friends will not get my vote Even if Roth had been involved in this it still would have been awful as Roth has definitely lost it since his homage-full Cabin Fever, he has lost his grip! Fuck it i wrote an essay but who cares
