Cop Graffiti Writerz

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

So this hilariously informative little Fox 40 news segment has been getting passed around on some of my friends’ blogs as of late and I thought it would be good to share it with everyone on the Bloglin as it provides some very useful information. I’ve broken down the key points for quick reference.

• The economy is waaay too bad right now for business owners to be worrying about ‘taggerz’

• Corey Simpson-Upmeyer is not a tagger, but rather an asymmetrical haircut having narc that prefers the company of sketchy police toys that name themselves after dog boners.

• Organized Emo crews can now finally be charged with participating in criminal street gangs.

The coffee table is about to get serious. But first I basically need to own a castle and hire a translator.

“The Grand Grimoire is a handbook which explains how to enter into a pact with three Infernal Spirits especially Lucifuge Rofocale.”

Le Dragon Rouge (The Red Dragon) is best known as a Grand Grimoire. The Red Dragon is considered to be “the book” of black magic and demonic evocation. This is 19th century as a reprint of original 1522 edition. Text in French. Rebound in full leather w/gothic brass ends and a cross. Marble endpapers.”

And With the First Pick the NY Islanders Select… Little Wang!

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

LittleWangTavares

Ok no they didn’t! But wouldn’t you love to see Little Wang (Islander’s owner Charlie Wang’s son) crowding the net and screening the Goalie!? Or maybe Little Wang could be a Goalie? He’s got a little bit of a Marty Brodeur frame going on under that jersey.

Anyway after playing coy for way too long about who’d they take with #1 pick, the Islanders got Jonathan Tavares, the hot-shit over hyped rookie who won’t be Crosby, Ovechkin or Malkin but may just make enough of an impact to stabilize a franchise barely above being a minor league team. While the Islanders aren’t my team, I always did like them and hope they can turn things around for the not only good of the storied franchise, but New York and the sport of Hockey.

The other big news was that the Broadstreet Bullies added the biggest (and oldest) Bully they could get by trading (and overpaying) for Chris Pronger in a desperation move to bring Philly a Cup. Good luck with that when your starting goalie is Ray Emery.

An astounding 7 Swedes (If you count U.S. born Tim Erixon) where drafted in the first round, including #2 defensive stud Victor Hedman headed to Tampa Bay. Sweden’s definitely taken over as the number one European country for young talent. Damn you Russia and your shady KHL, Transfer agreement shenanigans! You’re losing rank!

Finally check out how ridiculously young and goofy all the first round picks look… keep in mind they range from age 17 – 19, some may even be 16? Head here for a complete breakdown of how the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft went down and who your favorite team banked their futures on. I can tell you Toronto whiffed at #7 and that the Islanders still don’t have this whole running a  franchise thing yet figured out by trading up their second first round pick twice to grab a player they would have gotten at #16.

This has been your occasional Hockey post for the 3 of you who care!

rose live music

To my  surprise I just received this flyer drawn by Andrew Wendel  (DC Comics), the one who drew me this awesome thing from a former post.  I’m starting to think this guy’s got talent.  American burka. I’m down. Apparently I’ll be singing over at Rose Lounge Texas BBQ style this Independence Day anniversary.

bb july

Also have to then mention Betty Black is playing every Friday in July at Nublu, except not every Friday since Ben Dietz and I just got booked on a mini Scandinavian tour end of next month so I won’t be around for the last 2 Fridays and I’m a little too lazy to change the flyer just yet.  Which brings me to….

viv alive

Vivian Alive! , brought to you by your friends Passions and Myself and featured on the last track of the TnB Scion mix. Still in our embryonic stages, I quickly appropriated this image from Black Mask Magazine from the 20′s and we also have a few demos.  Looking forward to our first mini tour where we will play the Gagnef Festival with the Fagget Fairies, also looking forward to becoming sisterbrothers with them since we will be joining their label, Palms Out Records, for an EP release of this project. The day we arrive back in NYC will be the Betty Black EP release of ‘Slow Dance’ at Le Poisson Rouge, Aug. 2nd

(Thanks to those who came out to Trophy last time. I def appreciate the support.   And for those who didn’t …. cram it @ )

Now Available LeMerde x Super7 Mini Hollis

Friday, June 26th, 2009

HollisFrontPageIMAGE

Now available Super7 Hollis!

As summer rolls on and we haven’t even hit 90 degrees here in NYC, one has wonder exactly what is going on? It’s been a rainy, grey and muggy…there hasn’t been a BBQ in sight as we quickly approach July 4th, and quite frankly we’re wondering if the world may just end.

But enough of our apocalyptic visions, at least we do have something positive to report as we just got a small shipment of LeMerde x Super7 Hollis figures in stock. This painted figure is cast in translucent glow-in-the-dark vinyl with green, blue, and neon pink spray. Standing 4 inches tall, the mini Hollis’s size is dwarfed only by his hypnotic gaze and hot pink headband.

As mentioned, we have limited numbers of these available, so act now, before they are gone. And stay tuned to the site because we’ve got some news that will definitely grab your attention as we head into the 4th of July weekend next week. Until then, keep it cool.

5 Questions With Adam Tensta

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Adam Tensta

Adam Tensta is one of Sweden’s biggest Hip Hop stars who has been making waves internationally. He’s the subject of our latest 5 Questions and is also playing tonight in NYC at Webster Hall. Hopefully these will entice you enough to check him out!

5 Questions With Adam Tensta

1) Your name, Tensta, is the name of the project where you grew up. How big part does the projects and urban music coming from there play in Swedish street culture?

I wouldn’t necessarily say that coming from the projects is an essential part of the street culture in Sweden, but just as in the U.S. you have all facets of society represented in urban music. We do rep in some of it. Taking Tensta as my artist name, have definitely put us on the map. The fact that we are the underdogs, artists or all of us from the projects, I think represents an exotic element to the otherwise pretty homogeneous Sweden. We are the contrasts and you KNOW people can’t help but think that’s intriguing. Fashion, music, whatever, yes, we might not be the main influence, but we’re definitely there leavin’ our mark.

I remember this one time, when the booker refused to put my full name up on the posters for this one specific urban event, leaving out the part “Tensta” because he thought that it would attract the wrong type of clientele…

You do know that most of us living in the projects in Sweden are first- or second generation immigrants, right? Think color.

Around the world, people still expect a tall, blond dude when they hear a Swedish artist will perform at so and so.

2) We’ve heard that you’re interested in trends and fashion. What inspires your music and your style? And, how big is your imprint on Sweden, both style- and music-wise?

What inspires me as an artist are many of the same things that inspires me as a man, period. I don’t part one from the other, everything I see going on around me I try to put in my music and expressions, as unfiltered as possible. I actually was asked this very same question yesterday night by a kid who spotted me on my way home to Tensta. I told him that real life and the people in it inspire me, everything from sitting on the subway, just observing people from a distance to playing a football match on the PS3.

For me inspiration is a kaleidoscope, colors, forms and feelings that I try to put down on paper. Most of the time it’s unplanned and not so well thought through.

At first I didn’t think of myself as a trendsetter, but I’m slowly beginning to grasp the level of my influence on pop culture back home. My initial thought regarding my sound was that it was tailored for a very specific audience, but it ended up becoming so much broader than that. I got a kick when I heard that someone had said “I’m from Tensta. It’s A Tensta Thing” as a pickup line to a chick.

3) We understand that you’ve been around quite a bit this past year after a jam-packed Scandinavian tour last summer – Africa, California and now New York. How has that changed, inspired, improved you and your music?

As an artist I’ve grown. I have gained so much experience being in the public eye, from standing on stage basically every night for a year straight, to doing 10-15 interviews a week. I’m more honest, more direct, more confident. I think this even reflects in how I write my songs today. Now I know that people actually listen to what I have to say, I guess that the notion of that boosts me during my sessions.

As a man I’ve gained memories to last me a life time, I’ll never forget standing in front of an audience of 10.000+ people in Dakar, Senegal, or opening up for Jay-Z at the Globe Arena, the same arena I saw some of my favorite acts perform at when I was a kid

Itsatenstathing

4) There’s an international version of your debut album – It’s A Tensta Thing – in the works. When will it be done and what we expect from that?

As of yet, I don’t have a deadline on the closure of the “album”, I don’t even know if I believe that the album concept is something I wanna do. Right now I’m just in the studio knocking out joints as often as I can, and scheming on how to really make an impact when we decide to go international. I can’t even begin to tell you what you can expect, cause I don’t even know yet. All I can say is that the sound is on fire and the lyrics reflects that kaleidoscope I mentioned earlier, it’ll definitely be material worth your time

5) You’ve said your lyrics are socially conscious. What are some of the things you rap about and how do you think New Yorkers can relate to that?

As I said before, I touch on subjects related to my reality. I call it like I see it, and I believe that honesty is a trait that’s instrumental in touching people past that first listen. If I manage to do so, I believe that you will understand that the struggle is the same all across the world. We all go through disappointment, injustice and heartbreak, so I would be surprised if you can’t relate to what I’m speaking on.

Review: Sabertooth Zombie – …And Your Fathers Are Dead In the Ground

Friday, June 26th, 2009

sabertooth-zombie-fathers-dead

Sabertooth Zombie…And Your Fathers Are Dead In the Ground (2009) [Twelve Gauge] // Grade: B+

The blurring lines between Hardcore and Doom/Stoner Metal are becoming almost as widespread as they did in the 90s with Hardcore and Metal and it’s demon spawn Metalcore. As of yet no ones coined a term for it as far as I know, but I guess Doomcore is already taken?

…And Your Fathers Are Dead in the Ground, Sabertooth Zombie’s 2nd full length takes a lot more creative chances than 2006′s Midnight Venom that are quite rewarding. Like punch in the face of Hardcore bravado with the bluesy pentatonic swagger of traditional Stoner/Doom Metal, …And Your Fathers not only calls to mind traditional punk ethos, but proves that there are still a lot of ways to skin a cat. The outro track ends fittingly with a sample of Bill Hicks’ Amusement Park Ride routine over the decaying feedback of the album’s incessant assault… much like Hicks, Sabertooth Zombie are a crude and entertaining soothsayers in the face of utter banality.

Hi! I Am on Tour With METALLICA Right Now

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Metallica2

We have a slight hiatus at the moment. Metallica flew home for a few days to chill out, but I’m still in Europe. Watching Metallica every night is a combination of super awesome and super zzzzzzz. I regress to a 10 year old listening to my cousins Master of Puppets tape when they play those songs. Then they choose to acknowledge their less than stellar portion of their catalog. And no, I don’t mean the Black Album… That record is pretty good.

Personal highlights of this tour (so far) don’t include any bimbos but do include… Smoking weed with Kirk Hammett  and drinking some super expensive champagne with Lars. I still haven’t said a thing to James Hetfield though but Robert Trujillo (not pictured) is awesome though. That dude shreds, plus he was in the last good incarnation of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES. Speaking of which, I saw a few days ago and It wasn’t very good. I enjoy more than ST’s first record… they had me up until 1994′s Suicidal For Life, but their set this tour was just lame.

On a very important sidenote: It’s so hard to find weed in Europe! So if you want to come to one of our shows in Europe. I can probably put you on the list if you holler at me. *Wink, Wink*
