Review: Nobunny – Raw Romance
Nobunny – Raw Romance (2009) [Burger] // Grade: B+
Bloglin favorite Nobunny returns with a cassette only album, Raw Romance, his follow-up to last year’s awesome and far too overlooked gem, Love Visions. Nobunny’s Justin Champlin is an absolute mastermind of the sort of fun and effortless Rock ‘n Roll where simplicity and melody reign supreme. Like a Lo-Fi Ray Davies stringing together Doo-Wop & 60′s Girl group spiel, Raw Romance doesn’t really deviate from the things that made Love Visions so addictive and lovable. Opening with a Buffalo 66 sample that goes right into the killer “Your Mouth” you know this is just going to be a great time from the get-go.
Composed partly of new songs, covers and acoustic alternates of Love Visions favorites, Raw Romance does feel a more like an appetizer to tide hungry fans over until a proper new full-length… but be that as it may, it’s still pretty damn satisfying!
