Review: Dum Dum Girls – Yours Truly EP

Dum-Dum-Catholicked

Dum Dum GirlsYours Truly EP (2009) [Captured Tracks] // Grade: A-

Named after the opening track of Talk Talk’s classic It’s My Life, this previously (somewhat) mysterious artist sees a wider release of some of her older tracks along with 2 new ones. I doubt most people ever heard of last years self-titled debut EP, so I’m not going to knit-pick that two of it’s stand-out cuts, “Catholicked” and “Hey Sis” are re-released here because their audio quality is (slightly) better.

The 4 lovelorn and fuzzed-out gems of this all-to short release, hit all the right notes in their all to brief time on your stereo (or iPod). From the distant and haunting 60s Pop inspired melodies, the whole release is a like a blissful union of Black Tambourine’s janglier acoustics with the noisier sensibilities of Yo La Tengo for a concert in a beat up and rusted tin can. This is the best and most earnest of the Twee-Pop revivalists to date.
