Review: Prayers of Sanity – Religion Blindness

Prayers of Sanity - Religion Blindness

Prayers of SanityReligion Blindness (2009) [Unsigned] // Grade: C+

Prayers of Sanity sound a lot like that really awesome Metal band from when you were in High School Take that however you want but it’s as much a critique as it is  a compliment in my eyes. I’m not sure how old these guys are but judging by their Myspace photos they very well may just be still High School or just fresh out.

One of the things I love most about metal is the angst and youthful exuberance of it all which gets harder and harder to pull off the older a band gets.  Religion Blindness is not without it’s flaws the biggest being that while executed well, it brings nothing new to the table (riffage and lyrics) unless you want to count their occasional and humorously awkward stabs at Metalcore (especially on the ballad “Shards of Evil”). But despite it all there’s an energy about the album that warts and all is really very earnest. The unique combination of technical ability and just overall cheesiness that make for an incredibly fun and guilty pleasure of an album that feels like being 16 all over again… for better or worse, your call!
