Digging For Fire Vol. 53: Crème Blush – New York EP
I had forgotten that this band even existed until I was recently going through an old stack of CDs. 8 or 9 years ago Crème Blush received the dubious distinction of “band to watch” from NYC. This was right around the time of the Larry Tee led Electrocash scene… and while Crème Blush never really fit with the sound exactly, they benefited from the exposure on a few of the Electroclash comps and inclusion numerous times on the (now seemingly defunct) K48 magazine mixes.
Like I said, while lumped in with the Electroclash thing of the time, Crème Blush was much more just female fronted Synth-Pop in the vein of Strawberry Switchblade. They released a few singles which were eventually compiled on this debut EP New York. Not long afterward it seems like they just dropped off the face of the Earth. The Electroclash thing fizzled out and well they obviously were not the “next big thing”. Hell, it’s almost next to impossible to find any information about them online at besides an outdated Myspace page (which was recently logged into) and their website which is entirely in Japanese. I remember that singer/bassist Nicole Pinto used to work at a vintage boutique on 23rdt St. (which is now gone) near where I worked and that one of their keyboardists worked at Kim’s on St. Marks Place (also gone). In 2003 they followed this EP up with another one titled Basket of Bets* for which they made a few videos for. The most current bit of info about them is from 2005 where they announced moving from New York to London… but besides appearing on Armand van Helden’s “Come Play With Me” in 2005 I don’t think they’ve ever released anything since then. It’s really shame because while rough, both EPs offered a glimpse into what could have been a pretty good Synth-Pop outfit.

Thank you for reminding me of this group. Creme Blush was fantastic and your comment about them not quite fitting into the electroclash scene (despite being grouped into it) is so spot on. I always felt the same. You just made my Sunday, but sadly I can’t make yours back, because I don’t have that EP.

[...] Carly Rabalais voices mingle with the same post-punk influenced flatness that I loved so much in Creme Blush’s short career. Their intertwined voices continue in a similar style across Double Jointer, [...]

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, a band hard to find. I first heard them on an electroclash compilation that got in my hands when I was just 11, made me dive deep on electronic stuff.
