Review: Fondlecorpse – Creaturegore

Fondlecorpse - Creaturegore

FondlecorpseCreaturegore (2009) [Razorback] // Grade: B+

Creaturegore may sound like the name of a 1980′s movie along the lines of Critters, C.H.U.D., Ghoulies or Gremlins. Even though it’s not a movie, but rather the first full-length by Fondlecorpse, Creaturegore possesses many of the same traits as these classics. Just look at that album art! Along with obscure sound clips from throwback gore flicks and porn, Fondlecorpse plays well into the role of old-school death and thrash bands. In many ways, this album will take you back to your childhood just like these movies and offer a full dose of nostalgic death metal at the same time.

I have to admit, Creaturegore is nothing what I expected. From the onset with “the Invasion”, I was reminded this album was no where near as gore or grindy as I foolishly thought it would be. After the first few tracks, you’re well-aware of the blistering riffing and insane vocal bombardment. These guys play death metal with such intensity and originality that it’s easy to mistaken it for being decades older than it is.

Tracks that stick out the most are “Hideous”, with it’s memorable opening lines and mutated vocals and “Sluts And Bolts” with its brutally-commanding vocals and the clusterfuck of riffs. Overall, Creaturegore is a perfect example of how to be one of the better modern-day metal bands, you don’t have to be faster, more technical or heavier than the others. Fondlecorpse seems to be destroying fans all over and remember, a “Krite Attack” is always going to leave behind bodies.
