Music Video Premiere: A Place To Bury Strangers “In Your Heart”

Today Pitchfork is premiering the latest video I’ve directed for A Place To Bury Strangers. The song is titled, “In Your Heart” and it’s the first single off their Mute Records debut Exploding Head. Their music evokes a nihilistic, dead tech vibe in me and I wanted to explore that even further than I did with their “I Know I’ll See You” video a few years back. This time around, I wanted to add a touch of space age psychedelia.

The concept revolves around two H.A.L. like robots, in which one of them drains the life out of the other to burn brighter. The idea of projecting the band onto the set yielded a terrific “ghost in the machine” sort of quality. My wizard cinematographer, Marcos, was so psyched about the shiny black floor.

Smoke is my favorite thing in the world to shoot. I love to watch the swirling patterns and the drama it breathes. That’s me on the right fanning out the magic!

The images that I had in my head were perfectly translated into reality on this video. I couldn’t be happier with the energy and atmosphere it has. During the shoot, Mariah Carey was rehearsing in the studio next door, so she must have blessed the project!
Thanks to Mute Records and EVERYONE involved!
