A Glorious Dawn

No secret: I’m a space geek. So when I saw this video, ‘A Glorious Dawn ft. Stephen Hawking (Cosmos Remixed)’ I actually sort of welled up and almost shed a tear.

Space is beautifully complex. Thinking about space makes me feel like less than nobody. Less than inconsequential. Less than anything ever forever and never. By proxy, my problems, worries, fears, and doubts become nothing with me. Which is comforting.

Ideas like ‘…not a sunrise, but a galaxy-rise; A morning filled with 400 billion suns…’ and ‘The simplest thought, like the concept of the number one is an elaborate logical underpinning…’ are so pure and deep that, well, it hurts (in the good way) to really—REALLY—think about them.

What can touch you when you spend your days thinking about shit like that? Sagan must have been carved out of wood. Parking ticket? That’s all good…I was busy thinking about how to calculate the amount of starfuel there might be in the universe. Keep the change.

I don’t know. When life gets me down, I think about space. And little snippets like this one absolutely remind me that I’m not alone. We’re all alone. Together. Forever. And never.

Kudos to John Boswell for resisting the urge to make fun of the ’70s and creating a truly accessible, and hopefully wide-reaching glimpse into such awe-inspiring intellects. Space is the fucking place.
