Mad Men Re-Up: The Color Blue

After almost an entire season of being utterly worthless to the plot, baby Gene sets in motion what could possibly be the straw that breaks Betty’s back. His crying alarms Don, who forgets to put his desk keys back into his briefcase, leading Betty to discover the shoebox complete with divorce papers for Donald and Anna Draper – amongst other incriminating mementos from Don/Dick’s past. The tension built up to an nearly unbearable degree when she was waiting for Don to return home, but he was too busy having a sleepover at Miss Farrel’s. The final shot of Betty’s face at the SC 40th was brutal; she went from being ready to confront Don to just being worn and broken. She still doesn’t know the whole picture, and with only three episodes left, I’m anxious to see if the whole Wall of Don will come crashing down.

After almost an entire season of being utterly worthless to the plot, Paul masturbates to a Maidenform ad. For a second I thought Peggy was going to walk in on him and create another ego-crushing moment for Paul. But this honestly turned out to be a great episode for Mr. Kinsey; a character who is well-deserving of more screen-time. I genuinely felt empathy towards him when he forgot the idea he had during his booze/janitor-induced moment of genius. But he did walk away from the meeting knowing he can never underestimate Peggy’s talent again.
The British Invasion sub-plot hasn’t caused nearly as much conflict as I initially expected, and now they’re selling SC? It seems a little out of left field, but it might give the heads of SC the chance to buy back and (knock on wood) re-hire Sal. Don just got a fat bonus, if he doesn’t use that to help establish his own agency, maybe he could snatch a major holding in SC. Whatever happens, I really hope Lane sticks around. You could tell he’s settled into America despite his foxy wife’s bitching, and I’ve grown to like his caricature-like Britishness.
Any guesses on who made the phone call?

I don”t think we’ll ever know or are supposed to know who made the call… In all likelihood it was a wrong number that was used as a catalyst.
But if I had to put money on it being anyone, I’d say it was Miss Farrel’s epileptic brother.
