I love Van Halen (not van hagar) but between these two, Ramones take it. RTR somehow out did their previous first 2 records without doing much different. 1984 is just more DLR era Van Halen. Not to kick it in the nuts, but it’s just more fuel for “best of’s” instead of a killer record on it’s own. Rocket, start to finish, is very much it’s own entity.

1984 wouldn’t even make it onto my “top 100 Van Halen Records I Don’t Give A Fuck About.” That’s how little I give a fuck about it.

I’m not a huge Van Halen fan… I like songs here and there, “Panama” & “Hot for Teacher” being two of my absolute favorite guitar anthems, which also happen to be on 1984. But I find it unbearable to try and sit through any of Van Halen’s albums in their entirety.
On the converse, I love the Ramones and can always sit through any of their albums. But no single song of theirs hold any special place in my heart and their first 4 albums are all completely interchangeable. Rocket to Russia just happens to have the best cover.

hoo shit. Finally something to argue about! I have to go with “1984″ this time around since that was a crucial point in my life when it came out – I was just going into high school when this was released and it was like the soundtrack to a new phase of my life.
