Digital Graffiti 2k9, Sweatshoppe Style!

Art is a forever-evolving spectrum. Let me present you to the future-a new way of painting…with video! Sounds extreme, but totally kick ass.

The people behind this are NY video artist Bruno Levy and Blake Shaw, who is a young interactive video artist from Vermont.   These two prodigies met in Kathamandu, Nepal — which is between China & India.  They created Sweatshoppe, whose goal is to create a whole interactive performance that leaves it viewers “sweaty.”

By looking at the video, and knowing that there was no post production effects done, is NUTS! Who would have thought?!  But it is 2009, moving into 2010.  We have seen a lot of things, especially here in the Big Apple.  Could this be the future? A more Eco-friendly, less expensive way, to replace many big-screen ads? We will have to wait and see what the future holds.

Blake wrote the software they use in MAX software, which is a visual programming language for music and multimedia.  The paint roller they use does not have any paint whatsoever, but instead contains these neon green LEDs. The software they created and use tracks the color green and produces a visual projection targeted over the strokes the roller makes. This is a very innovative way to replace graffiti, and a new way to bring visual and multimedia art into the future. This is just phenomenal!

Sweatshoppe plans on eventually releasing this software to the public, but only when it is much more user-friendly and sophisticated. And you can bet when they do, I’m sure they will make a lot of money and the world of art and advertising will be taken to the next level. They plan on using this more with architecture and layering videos, which would be even more imaginative. I can’t wait to see what comes about this technology.

To follow up with Sweatshoppe, there is an interview with Bruno Levy on www.trashmenagerie.com Check it out!
