Canned whole chicken–gotta be nasty, and I aint willing to test that assumption.

On a more pleasant note Webster Hall is popping tonight. Suckers are gonna be there, Das Racist is gonna be there, G. Voidwell is gonna be there, BBU is gonna be there, and some other people that I don’t know are gonna be there.

I had originally intended to write this post to throw a shoutout to BBU (Bin Laden Blowin’ Up), but seeing as all these homies are involved things look even better. I came across BBU whilst perusing the internet’s hip hop fineries (and not so fineries). I peeped their song “Chi Don’t Dance,” and thought it was dope so I gave them a call. As it turns out, they’re level-headed down to earth guys making hip hop for all the reasons worth listening to. They started out just doing the damn thang, rocking shows locally, then making songs, then boom pow bang everything came together and they’re on their way.

They don’t really fit into any categories, and they don’t sound much like anyone else. They’re definitely a firm departure from the Cool Kids, Common, or Kanye—who are the names that first come to mind when I think Chicago hip hop. But if you’re really up on your shit, then you might hear a little bit of Rubberroom [(which now that I just went back and peeped, it sounds like Rubberoom's song "Sector Rush" flipped the same break from Outkast's "So Fresh and So Clean") super bonus for those who remember Rubberoom from Gershon Mosley's part in Transworld, that kicklfip front noseslide at Hubba? whoa.]. As they told it to me, they just try to make music that reflects all of their influences. They’re not rocking for hip hop crowds, they’re not rocking for electro crowds, they’re not rockin for house crowds, they’re just rockin—straight up. So, if you’re in the area definitely check these guys out. And, if you miss Webster Hall you can still catch homies later tonight at Kenny’s Castaway.
