Huge and Ridiculous…in Japan

Windows7Whopper

As a guy who has actually spent an hour or two actually talking about Windows 7 and ‘what it all means’ as a function of my job, I think this is absolutely hilarious. Part of the larger, unavoidable marketing push for Microsoft’s latest and greatest, Burger King Japan has outed this, yep, 7-layer Whopper.

I cannot. Cannot. Will not imagine eating this thing. I have always been the type of guy who prefers two smaller hamburgers to one ginormous one, but regardless, how someone could think this is a good idea is beyond me. Actually, scratch that. I understand how bloated dorks at Microsoft and desperate execs at BK could think this is a clever and sort-of funny way to spread the disease, but I wonder if they ever put themselves in the shoes of someone standing at the counter, staring up at the menu, and pointing at this thing.

This article takes the other, totally obvious angle: considering Microsoft’s and Windows’s reputations for passing off horrible bloat and unfinished core-concept code as the ‘next big thing’, this particular campaign (the whopper) has a few Achilles heels embedded into it.

I’m no bleeding heart, but in a day and age where it’s absolutely positively impossible to avoid feeling at least a tiny bit responsible for finding a way to contribute to solving the world’s problems (hunger, greed, environment, being nice), one wonders if another version of Windows and a heart attack in a bun to match is really what we need.

    Not even remotely appetizing. Appropriate.

Not to burst the bubble on how outrageous this may seem but Japanese McDonalds’ were offering a Mega Mac as recently as last year. It’s 4 pattie big mac… OR you so choose, you could go the Tamago Mega Mac option and throw a fried egg into the mix.

I mean that’s still not 7 patties, but still pretty crazy. My point being the Japanese will soon be very fat people.

I don’t think that’s what they intend. BK’s Whopper is supposed to be the King of Burger’s so what they are trying to say is Windows 7 is supposed to be the King of Operating Systems..

This burger is probably only available to buy for a limited time. I can’t read Japanese but it looks like from 10/22-10/28. 6 days. How many people do you think would actually buy this. It’s just a way to amp both of their sales, I think it was a clever way because it definately draws attention and WOW to both of them..

given the patties are just under a quarter pound a piece, and there are plenty of places that serve a single 1lb patty burger stateside, I don’t see why this 1.6lb burger is such a big deal. It just looks huge stacked up & photographed for media/advertisement, and due to how sensibly they eat over there regarding their portions, I really don’t see this being a big seller – much less afflicting the country with obesity. Burger King does, however, have restaurant installations in Japan that only serve the Whopper & soft drinks, nothing else, and the lines are notoriously long. So Burger King is moderately popular for lunchtime on the go.

I completely agree with everything all the time. The ‘7′ factor was amped to the nines…it was available for 7 days, for 777 yen, and of course, 7 patties.

There are more brazen and ridiculous things out there, yes. I was just struck by the sheer unappetizingness of the thing, coupled with the dogshit stink that a Windows ad campaign tends to put onto everything.

I’ve got it on good authority from someone I trust that Windows 7 IS, actually, a return to amazingness for that platform, but you’d never know it due to shit like this. I’m actually half-convinced that MS tanked Vista so they could return in their JC pose and try and take a share from Apple. Either way, disgusting burger.

A Tamago Mega Mac, though….Interesting. I even get grossed out by In-n-Out’s 4×4. Which is exactly what it sounds like.

in and out (in california) used to have a 100 x 100 until in got banned by the board of health. LOL.

  7. THROBULATOR! Says:

Mmmm. Look at all that juicy meat!
I wanna stick my whopper in it.

    What statement would that make?
