Nine Inch Nails: TDS Live at Webster Hall DVD & More

So now I know: I’m not alone. My fervor and unflagging love for NIN is shared by a few other souls who habitate this blog. Hosanna.

I’m sort of stunned into silence by the whole ‘Waving Goodbye’ aspect of their latest exploits, but I am doing my best to remain positive that Trent & Co. will find a way to continue contributing music and all around good stuff to the world after a short hiatus. Hope is all I have right now.

But! To tide me over until that whenever, I stumbled onto a few goodies that are out there in the ninverse, stuff that you, avid reader, will also probably like to get in on.

First: The Nine Inch Nails Live 2009 channel on Vimeo is absolutely superb. Rob Sheridan has spent the past year documenting the band’s exploits on stage and off, and there are some wonderful performance videos to be had. The above is of none other than Mister Gary Numan performing ‘Cars’ with the gang, and the below is the more Nin-centric ‘Metal’. Too much good stuff.

Second: As our own Cornbluth had previously reported, part of the last wave of dates that Nin played here in the states included a live run-through of the entire The Downward Spiral album. In the spirit of Nin’s open-camera policy, these shows were captured by multiple fan sources, and there are a plethora of fan-authored video projects that have been released. From Nin’s news feed:

On the recent Wave Goodbye tour, we were unable to professionally film the band’s performance of The Downward Spiral at Webster Hall, due to exorbitant fees requested by the LiveNation venue. Our open camera policy, however, remained in tact, and as soon as the show ended fans took matters into their own hands, organizing online to track down everyone who had filmed HD footage of the show. Now, only two months later, the group has released a polished, edited, downloadable DVD of the full Downward Spiral performance from Webster Hall. The entire thing has been recorded, edited, and distributed entirely by fans, and it’s the latest example of the amazing things fans will do when their creativity isn’t limited by outdated, misguided restrictions.

Do yourself a favor and download this gem. There’s also an audio-only version available, which I rocked this morning. Even WITH the dudes next to the camera wiling out, it’s amazing. That album is amazing. This band is (was, sob) amazing.

Happy Halloween.
