If You Haven’t Yet, Please See Zombieland!

ZOMBIELAND

Yeah, yeah, I know. This movie has been out for a few weeks now. While I usually try and catch every single stupid Zombie* movie that manages to make it’s way onto the big screen (usually on opening day), I couldn’t get excited to see the movie and had little faith that it would be good. While I love Zombies and Woody Harrelson, Zombieland’s trailer just wasn’t doing it for me. Thankfully I was wrong.

You know the story, you always know the store in any Zombie flick. The fact that you can pick up and drop almost any of them into one another’s continuity is part of the charm. But even still, not all Zombie flicks are created equal. The fact that Romero can give us Land of the Dead and then follow it up with the awful Diary of the Dead a few years later is proof that despite the seeming simplicity in plot and premise, making a great Zombie film is no easy task even for the master… especially while trying to inject it with a 21st century perspective.

Zombieland2

Zombieland is easily the most entertaining zombie film I’ve seen in I don’t even know how long? Truthfully it’s way more Bromantic Comedy than Horror film but who cares when it’s gory, funny and entertaining? From the cast, the writing, the direction to blessing us with Billy Murray’s best cameo role this decade the film did little if anything wrong. While Shaun of the Dead may have instigated the zombie flick as comedy, Zombieland goes one-step further and taps right into same vein that made movies like Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice so endearing and beloved.

*warning fast zombie haters, Zombieland is full of them.

‘Endearing’ is the perfect way to describe Zombieland! I loooooooved this movie, even more than I thought I would. I was excited about it from the start, but I didn’t expect it to be nearly as funny and charming as it was. Can’t wait to see it again.

How about a spoiler alert on the cameo???!!!!

Haha true – totally did just blow probably the biggest surprise in the movie, although at this point I gotta imagine most people who were going to see it already have.

I really enjoyed it as well, pretty much delivered on my expectations perfectly. Honestly, I’d say Shaun of the Dead was overall a deeper “zom-com” but Zombieland was fun as hell.

Guys hate tp break it to you but Bill Murray being in the film isn’t a secret, nor did I say anything about his character and/or the plot.
