Borderlands, a Review

Borderlandscover

I’ve logged about 30 hours into this bitch so I think it is time for a review.

Fuck, the post-apocalyptic genre is really hitting it up right now huh?  We had that movie Doomsday and the upcoming The Road, and Mad Max: Fury Road.  We had the books The Road and World War Z.  Even in comics with Wolverine’s Old Man Logan run.

But where the shit really gets fun is with the videogames.  Fallout 3 came out and regardless of how you feel about that game it really put Post-Apoc games back on the map.  So much so that two high profiles Post-apocalyptic games got announced soon after.  One game, Rage, by id (the makers of the Quake and Doom games) won’t be out till next year.   But the other one, Borderlands, just came out and it is pretty…pretty…Lethal.

Let’s get this out of the way, this is a nerdy game…a very badass nerdy game but still fucking nerdy.  It’s a First Person Shooter Roleplaying Game or FPSRPG.  You shoot a ton of shit: bandits, monsters, the military…but when you do you gain experience, like in a RPG, and eventually level up.  There are 4 classes of soldier…the vanilla guy who is good with machine guns, the Berserker who can take a lot of damage and punch people, the siren who is good with energy weapons and “MAGIX”, and lastly the Hunter (my Fave <3) who is great with sniper rifles and pistols and has his own falcon!

There is basically no story, you talk to someone, you get a mission, you go to the waypoint, kill a bunch of shit, and go back and get money and experience.  Along the way you find a ton of crazy loot (apparently there like a million different weapons in the game).  Basically this is a FPS version of fucking DIABLO.  It’s fine to play alone but it can get kinda boring so you are encouraged to get online and play with a friend, you’ll get more experience and better guns…and have a better time overall.  It’s got that cell-shaded comic book style graphics, which I could take or leave but overall works.  The game is pretty RAD, especially when playing with 3 friends.  Shit gets crazy.

The game is out for PS3 and 360…but I be playing the PC version.  Give it a try…and hit me up for some CO-OP if you got the PC.
