Review: White Shit – Sculpted Beef

White Shit - Sculpted Beef

White ShitSulpted Beef (2009) [PPM] // Grade: A

I feel like a tool because this release slipped past my radar for over a month. It’s 9 songs across 15 minutes of just pure sludgy fun. Lead by Andy Coronado (Monorchild & Skull Kontrol) on guitar, Jarred Warren (Big Business, KARP & The Melvins) on Vocals, and Cody Willis (Big Business, The Murder City Devils & The Melvins) on drums and a bass player only known as “Tits”. Who knows who Tits is but with this line-up reading off like the who’s-who of Pacific Northwest sludge maybe “Tits” is Lorax AKA Lori Black (Melvins, Clown Alley)? That’s if “Tits” is even female. Maybe “Tits” is Tad Doyle and it’s a reference to his weight? Who the fuck knows, I’m sure I could sit here all day and make pointless assumptions, none of which would have any bearing on how great this album (or EP) is.

While most tracks hover at just under 2 minutes, they all feel so anthemic and epic that it’s amazing. You’d never know the album was only 15 minutes long unless you looked at your watch. It’s a quarter of an hour of simply your fist in the air and  a smile on your face… Sculpted Beef is vintage Pacific Northwest sludge stomp. Thank Andy Coronado for giving the Big Business duo the shot to make up for their somewhat lackluster album from earlier this year.
