It’s no secret that I love toys. I got into the Japanese vinyl collecting hobby about a year ago, which—much to Mrs. Hateball’s fright—meant that boxes were coming in the mails from around the world. Every day. Sometimes two and three at a time.

That’s what I call the ‘genesis’ of my collection…you know how when you first get into something you’re into it ALL THE WAY and it consumes you. Every spare penny you have for pursuing whatever it is will be spent on whatever it is.

Now that I’ve got an actual ‘collection’ sitting around collecting dust (my collection has a collection, ha) I’m in maintenance mode. Not really combing the boards looking for the next thing I don’t have, but waiting around for something I HAVE to have. The recent Mishka x Nag Nag Nag siamese caveman was one of those things, but—sadly!—I slept. I’ve been pretty bummed about it, too.

But, my bummers are over. I recently received my latest order from Elegab, the pink spray Puppet Seijin! This dude is…in a word: freaky as shit. His head is shaped sort of like a jet engine with ears, and he has one of the creepier mugs I’ve seen in a while. His body is very much in the ‘dude in a suit’-style, but he’s got a sort of ‘lean back’ swagger to him.

The real cherry on top is the inclusion of the puppets. Puppet Seijin’s hands are, well, puppets. His arms end in narrow points, and you’re free to interchange any two of the 4 little micro-figures that come with him as his hands. The fact that the puppets themselves are stranger-looking and more disturbing than their already pretty scary big brother is, really, great great fun.

As expected, Elegab keeps turning out the hits. I’ve been super impressed with his Shuttlegon figure as well as some of the other, smaller toys he’s been turning out this year, and it’s looking like 2010 is going to be another “big” one for him. If you’re even remotely into vinyl/kaiju/dust collection, this is one japanese toy maker to continue watching.
