Turds Made of Leather Drop Together…

roughcut

I recently got three of my most ghastly beasts together for a little photo shoot. This is—for me, at least—a photographical representation of Japanese kaiju, c. 2009. There are some close acquaintances of mine who will be aghast at this statement; not because it comes from me, but because they will wholly disagree with it. But. Well. The internet affords me a voice.

Rough. Dirty. Gross. These particular dudes all happen to be blue, but that’s not a part of my discourse. The return of the kaiju spray (the use of approximate and ‘loose’ patterns of color on a body that doesn’t contain any/many defined surfaces). A relative lack of any defined surface/s in the sculpt itself. These dudes—too—all happen to be big, though this year saw it’s share of awesome minis.

Anyway. In true Hateball style, I’m making a claim and then losing interest before I really dig deep and substantiate it with any real, good, hard evidence or analysis. Bottom line is that I love these figures, and the two on the right came out this year. The dude on the left—Mr. Original Bemon Pollution Monster—has been around for years, but saw a pretty significant boom in availability this year, so he counts, too.

I just noticed (this is why I’m a terrible photographer) that the Caveman (center) is talking to both Bemon and Zudon at once, which is fantastic. A crappy accident, indeed.

The uneven distribution of the 6 eyes between the 3 figures is at once disturbing and attractive… BTW, who do I have to blow to make out with that Caveman, or one like him?
