Out Magazine’s The 100 Greatest, Gayest Albums of All Time

GayestAlbums

Out Magazine has been doing lists the past few weeks highlighting the greatest and gayest things of all time. They just concluded their 100 Greatest, Gayest Albums of All Time which contains most of the Madonna, the Pet Shop Boys and The Smiths discographies.

While there were a few interesting inclusions like not one but two Husker Dü albums (Zen Arcade and Candy Apple Grey) and fair helping of Riot Grrrl punk, I have to be honest I was hoping for a better and more thought out list. Most of this stuff listed was just so predictable that it was insulting. Where was Jobriath? Eminem? Come on, we all know what being Slim Shady is really about. Or Madonna’s Immaculate Collection at #8? Album ranking 101: No compilations or best ofs, EVER! Especailly not when you have so much of Madonna’s back catalog already included. However, giving #1 to Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders from Mars was as excellent choice.

In addition to the album list, Out also did a smaller countdown of The Gayest Video Games of All Time. But how this list could ignore Sega Master System classic, Alex Kidd: the Lost Stars is beyond me! The third stage of this game featured more phallic shaped objects than you can shake a stick at on top of a naked punk rocker who would shoot skulls out of his ass at you!

Without Jobriath’s albums & Steven Grossman’s “Caravan Tonight” at the top this list is another example of people who know nothing making lists. They think the people who paved the way mean nothing. Jobriath & Steven were the real thing & paid a huge price for being openly Gay. Bowie did great songs & shows but he was a fake. A hetero in queer clothes. Now Adam Lambert is criticized for doing things at the awards that Bowie did as Ziggy. It’s okay as long as you’re a hetero pretending to be Gay but if you’re an openly Gay artist heteros don’t like it.
Throw Out Magazine out the door.

@John Cox you hit the nail on the head right there! Out Magazine is a piece of shit.
