Bloglin Weekly Round-Up!

504x_ninjasonik

Another week, another holiday behind us. Whatever you practice, I hope the Krampus went easy on you and you didn’t choke out too many relatives. Toss back the rest of the nog and enjoy the week in Мишка.

• Gossip rag Gawker launched their Hipster of the Decade Poll, with Kari Ferrell, Gavin McInnes, and the late Dash Snow gunnin’ for the number one spot. Also in the running is “The Concept of the Black Hipster,” which uses an image of Мишка family members Ninjasonik as an example. Natch.

• The Bloglin best of lists rolls on with the Top Ten Memes of the Decade! I had forgotten about a couple of these, but I was stoked to see All Your Base high up in the ranks. I like that one. More lists on the way before the ball drops! In case you slept, check out the Top 100 Albums of 2009 List here.

• On his blog, Prolly posted his Top Ten Fixed Gear Freestyle Photos of 2009. I don’t own a bike anymore, but I once beat Colin Winkelman (RIP) in pool.

• Above is the new chapter in the Kill With Video saga, “Should Have Taken Acid With Slush Puppie.” Yeah, should have.

• If you’re thinking about saving your Christmas money for college or, I dunno, a “future,” fuck that. Мишка Holiday Grab Bags are back! No seriously, good deals. Also check out the Gein New Era Hunting Caps!

• Welcome the winter with the Winter Solstice Mix from Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife, Fever Ray). Perfect tunes to jack your frost to! (That’s my final shitty joke of 2009, I swear)

• Hateball got raped by the black wave of terror but still had it in him to drop some book knowledge on us.

• Our Album Honor Roll for the week: Kalliolle, Kukkulalle from Verivala and The Music Scene from Blockhead.

When people talk about black hipsters as a phenomenon i want to punch their faces in. Is it so crazy that some black people like shit that they aren’t shown liking in TV commercials and music videos? Racism stays strong.

Remember that New Yorker article about how the black influence had left rock and roll and that indie rock was racist because it wasn’t “funky.” Black people are genetically funky according to the New Yorker.

Also I want one of those tight pants niggah shirts.

I don’t remember the New Yorker article that you speak of, and I have a subscription to that thing. When was it published? I would like to read it. It seems like a weird thing for them to publish given that, of all publications, they’ve got one of the best hip-hop commentators of the moment in Sasha Frere-Jones. His lengthy story about hanging out with MF Doom from earlier this year is one of my favorite pieces of writing in recent memory.

EDIT: The MF Doom profile was actually by Ta-Nehisi Coates, who is also awesome.
