“Scream Bloody Gore” was definitely more influential out of the two in terms of death metal and the whole Florida thing. However, Possessed did write the song “Death Metal,” and probably went on to inspire a zillion shitty black metal releases years later. Plus, I’m an devoted Bay Area thrash fan, and I still listen/drink to “Seven Churches” from time to time. Possessed gets my pick.

Love both but have always been more partial to Seven Churches. It just screams of teenage angst and desperation in a way that’s authentic, unnerving and just killer metal.

Seven Churches all the way, if only because Possessed gave us not only the song Death Metal, but Larry LaLonde, who later went on to form Primus.

I’m surprised there’s so much love for Possessed. Not because they are inferior (Seven Churches is an untouchable classic) but because it is put up against Scream Bloody Gore.
I’m going with Scream Bloody Gore. But not without hesitation.
