HBO Pulls Its Pants Up.
Just when you were about to cancel the cable, HBO releases trailers for two new shows from the creative minds behind two of television’s best dramas.
The first is “Treme“, linked above, which follows the residents of New Orleans three months after 2005′s Hurricane Katrina as they try to rebuild their homes, culture and way of life. Treme is produced by David Simon and Eric Overmyer who are best known for their magnum opus series, “The Wire“. Simon and Overmyer are back in their element depicting the oppression occurring in some of America’s most impoverished black neighborhoods with the focus this time on the New Orleans neighborhood Treme. Treme is known for its jazz and traditions dating back to the 1700′s when it was a meeting ground for slaves on their Sundays off in accordance with Catholic tradition under French rule. Treme is set to premiere on HBO this April.
The second HBO series to keep watch for is Terence Winter’s “Boardwalk Empire” following Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster during the 1920′s. Winter is best known for producing and writing the New Jersey mafia epic, The Soprano’s so a period piece about gangster booze runners should be sure shot for the mob tale enthusiast.

Great news! I just finished reading Zeitoun, an amazing little book about one man’s nearly unbelievable experiences following Katrina. Now I want to read every piece of New Orleans lit I can get my hands on and hopefully keep the momentum going right up through the debut of Treme.

Mr H, I suggest then that you read “A Confederacy of Dunces”, it’s a comedy, but it is set in New Orleans. Highly recommended.
Was that Michael Shannon I noticed in the 2nd preview? These both look really good…
