I’m All For a Paperless, Electronic D&D, But Don’t Get Rid of the Dice!
Some students from Carnagie Melon University devised a way to play Dungeon’s & Dragons on the Microsoft Surface. Yeah I don’t know what the hell a Microsoft Surface is either but this looked pretty effin’ cool and efficient way to gather your friends and slaughter some Orcs.
However at around the 2 minute mark in this demo I realized that they totally digitized the dice. You can’t digitize the Dice!!!! We all have our rituals and methods for rolling that you can’t just transfer over into the digital world. Oh well, this is pretty cool regardless. And yes Prolly I saw you retweeted this, congrats. We have a medal waiting for you upstairs in the office.

Here is my favorite video that includes “the surface” or a close competitor there of. The guy using it is Damian Taylor, who invented the program being used to play most of the music. I think I would much prefer seeing someone using this instead of just sitting behind a laptop….but that’s just me!

BTW, i’m going to go ahead and say…whoever is down for some D&D let’s fucking do it. I’ve only played twice in my entire life, and I am not creative enough to be a DM, but if anyone is down then break out the dice! Microsoft Surface not included.

Nerds have more fun than hipsters.
These types of displays might give a shot in the arm to table top gaming.
I love people who call DnD anti-social, it’s anything but!

That is sick. I want one. I DM once in a while with some co workers. I print my own maps and stuff but this is awesome!
DnD is so social!
