You Should be Listening to… O. Children

O-Children2

There seems to be no shortage of great new UK bands with Goth and Post-Punk influences. O. Children is one that I’m absolutely loving right now. Singer, Tobias has a sweet baritone that’s thankfully not of the Ian Curtis variety, but more of the dramatic Andrew Eldritch (of Sisters of Mercy) style. Plus naming yourselves after a Nick Cave song is always a good way to get on my radar.

Right now O. Children don’t have much to their name. A split release with fellow UK Gravers S.C.U.M. and the Dead 7″, But boy is it all good! “Ace Breasts” from the split release is up on Fairtilizer to enjoy. And while that’s a good track, I’m really into “Dead Disco Dancer” (see video above) and “Dead Eye Lover”. Both songs have the sort of graveyard grooves you just don’t really hear all that often from modern bands.

O. Children also have a few clips up on YouTube of them performing the tracks live including “Lily’s Man” which isn’t on any of their releases so far. They just look a pretty great live act in general. I Don’t really know when or if these guys will ever make it stateside or record a full length, but I have my fingers crossed that both happen sooner than later.

There isn’t a wealth of info about the band or their plans on the net right now, but there is an informative (and quick) Dazed interview with singer Tobias, so get familiar!
