Serious Saturdays #36: Riva Starr, Just Call It House

Currently a household name, Riva Starr started producing music many years ago under the alias Madox. While still living in Italy, I was compelled to contact him after hearing one of his tracks. I’ve since kept myself in the loop of all of his new ventures and productions that brought him all around the world.

Since his last hit, “I Was Drunk”, and his breakthrough album If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade (released on Made To Play records) his brand of house has become popular throughout the world, particularly here in North America. His new album is full of vibin’ house with quite a variety of catchy instrument samples ranging from acid to eastern European folk.

Above is a personal favorite from the album titled “Caballeros”. This track really brings me back to the ’90s, growing up in Italy and hearing dance music virtually everywhere I went. The Spanish vibe of “Caballeros” reminds me of Ramirez’s “Bomba” and “El Gallinero”, two huge Italian dance charters from way back when.

Riva Starr recently started his own imprint called Snatch! which has released David Keno’s “Upside Down” a quirky house homage to Diana Ross’ “Upside Down”. Make sure you download Riva’s BBC1 Essential Mix released earlier this year which put him up there as one of this year’s most sought after producers!

We’re proud to count Riva Starr as one of magenta warriors, aka “Mopsters”. By the way check him in an unreleased Keep Watch sweater in the above press photo. Also be sure to keep yourself updated on Riva Starr’s tour dates and releases by making friends with him via Facebook.
