Мишка Presents Keep Watch Vol. XVII: AC Slater!

This month’s Keep Watch Mix comes courtesy of our hometown bass warrior AC Slater of the infamous Trouble & Bass crew. These pounding 33 minutes drive you through his upcoming release peppered with a host of acapellas to intensify the experience, which starts out with the Drop The Lime remix of Slater’s upcoming single “Take You Higher”. It then progresses to a more bass-heavy and dubstep sound provided by the help of label mates Ninjasonik and 77Klash. Wrapping it up with a 3am “Eternal” vibe that comes courtesy of Luna C – the old school rave producer of 92 Eternal’s “The Feeling.”

AC Slater (Aaron Clevenger) has been gaining notoriety for cultivating a bass dominant sound becoming one of the most sought after producers of the past 2 years. Raised on 90′s hip-hop and nourished by old skool rave Slater has successfully combined these influences into his own unique style of music production. He was taken on by the Brooklyn label, Trouble & Bass, home to Math Head, Passions and Drop the Lime. Over the past few years Slater has had consistent radio play on BBC 1 and Kiss 100 in the UK, and has been seen as an integral part in the DJ sets of Moby, Tommie Sunshine, Crookers, The Freestylers, MSTRKRFT, Drop the Lime and Stanton Warriors. In the first half of 2010 Slater is set to release his next single ‘Take You’ on Trouble & Bass, followed by the eagerly anticipated Calm Down trilogy EP.

With the help of T&B, 10 years behind the decks and an arsenal of tracks Slater shows no signs of slowing down. Booking shows across Europe, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Asia and Australia he has been leaving a trail of adrenaline, shattered speakers and loyal fans behind him. He plans to do the same this spring throughout his world tour; all the while working on his debut album due in 2011.

The pseudonym “AC Slater” attracts a cult following, but gimmick isn’t everything. Aaron needs to work on his mastering and editing skills before he can be considered a true virtuoso. But as of now, AC Slater is just a New Kid on The Block. Tell me why DJ Skream has been active since 2003, and isn’t given HALF the recognition he deserves. The Music Industry has become increasingly superficial and formulaic. In my opinion, KEEP WATCH Vol. 6 was of higher quality.

Matt, we are entitled to an opinion. In all faireness the name was never a gimmick really. His music speaks for himself and he is on the forefront of his sound and in constant evolution. AC as well has been producing for a long time, if you are aware of the current state of the music industry (at least the electronic one) you will certainly know that in the USA it takes the general public to recognize an artist at least 2 years more than Europe. If you prefer Skream then that is your choice and nothing wrong with that as I myself do hold highly Skream’s tracks. Contrary to what you may think, Skream is more recognized internationally than AC at this point in time; AC has been constantly building his profile with hard hitting tracks and this year as proven by the mix and his new and upcoming releases will certainly solidify him internationally. Check print and blogs and you will find a plethora of information regarding Skream’s groundbreaking work in the past years and magazine covers regarding his newer project, along side Benga and Artwork, called Magnetic Man.

  4. Gnou Says:

As much as I like some of Skream’s tracks, I think he is entirely overrated/overhyped at this point in his career… All his recent remixes sound exactly the same, yet they get jocked all over the blogs. And while AC Slater is indeed a rookie, it seems to me his name got huge as fast as Skream’s did, and his cult following is no larger than Skream’s… Except of course if you’re in Brooklyn, just like Skream is the poster child of Croydon.

  5. THE SUPREME ONE Says:

There will always be some-one better , there is countless Producers who have gone above and beyond AC slater and are not recognized…
Don’t believe the hype Ac is good but not that great….
But @ the end of the day opinions and bullshit dont matter, none of this stops the world from living its just music and music comes a dime a dozen one day its here the next it gone..

  6. Pooks Says:

All love for AC and Skream.

  7. Mishka Bloglin » Blog Archive » UK/Europe: Let AC Slater Take You Higher… Says:

[...] delivering a hard hitting Keep Watch XVII, AC Slater is embarking on another UK/European slaughter! Screw the Icelandic volcano ash! Our hero [...]

  8. Tonewise Says:

… Hey Matt way to say nothing important.

  9. oUo Says:

so easy to hate on someone who’s worked so hard.. AC’s been around 10+ years in the dance music game, best recognize! his production has been through the roof with each new release. One of the better US producers and DJ’s pushing his sound to the masses!

If yer still stuck on the name and not paying attention to the music, then you haven’t been around long enough, sorry!

  10. bry Says:

pretty sure ac slater started off producing happy hardcore and hard trance from like 99-2005?

  11. AC Says:

Mad love to my buddy Skream, he’s got a f’n gold record, and is already a legend at such a young age! I don’t expect everyone to like what I do, its all good. I can just hope someone likes the mix.

    Lets just focus on this…

  12. ysa Says:

hate the mix. in other news, PREGNANT BUBBLES GIVIN BIRTH TO BUBBLES.

  13. Seany Says:

I love this mix and all the other mixes done for Mishka (especially T & B and crookers) . Only problem is i can only listen to this one on-line cus the download won’t open properly. It would be great if someone could fix it so i could listen to the mix any-time/every second of the day.

  14. B Says:

Bit late on this one, but couldn’t help but comment after reading all this goof.
Whats with comparing skream and Ac? They’re pretty different in my opinion.
I’ve never heard Skream play Bassline in his sets..
Saw Ac Slater in Leeds (England) sometime early 2008 I think, probably one of the best jump up sets that year.
Re Matt; Skream is massive throughout most of Europe, and is defiantly huge in the UK – tracks being played on daytime soaps and shit. Ac has only recently been getting big in the face.

  15. JVB Says:

Deathface needs to remix that bubbles vid at around the 45 second mark. NOW.

I want to stick up for Matt because we have the same last name, but you’re completely off base. You can’t compare the two, and even if you could, the great thing about music is that it’s subjective… not everybody has to like the same thing. There’s really no right or wrong…

…although, in this instance, you’re wrong.

the link for download is dead …… help?
