Serious Saturdays #41: The Glitch Mob, Steady Mobbin’.
About a year and a half ago our dear friend and Serious Saturday alum Drop The Lime, put me on to The Glitch Mob. He really didn’t say much besides a prophetic “listen and you shall understand” and well, that I did.
That following summer, their mix Crush Mode played at our office and warehouse speakers non stop until the disc finally melted. It’s a pretty joyous occasion when you find a mix or album that you can play over and over again in it’s entirety. This year, Glitch Mob has repeated the feat with their brand new album Drink the Sea, which will officially be out on May 25th.
With Drink the Sea, the California based trio continues their journey deep into some seriously futuristic Hip Hop laden adventures. Listening to the album i feel like I’ve jumped 10 years into the future where the music just plays from inside your body, synched perfectly with your own heartbeat.
It’s a trippy and unreal experience and unlike anything else. Check out he first single from the new album, “Drive It Like You Stole It” up above. It really personifies the essence of The Glitch Mob.
The Glitch Mob are unique breed when it comes to electronic/dance music. The group has a very concentrated live performance aspect utilizing an array of midi controled touch and drum pads as seen in the video for “Beyond Monday.”
Nowadays the group has begun to bring in live guitar and bass to accompany the electronics taking their sound and performances into intense atmospheric territories. Records, MP3 and YouTube clips only due the Glitch Mob so much justice…this is a group that needs to be seen to fully be experienced.
Here is a little bonus clip courtesy of XLR8R TV featuring the trio taking to the streets of San Francisco with an improv soundsystem and causing general confusion amongst the passerbys.
Make sure you check out their Myspace page which features Edit, Ooah and Boreta’s personal productions as well. Three amazing individuals that are taking music to a higher plateau who will be a force to be reckoned with this year and beyond. You have been forewarned!
