Мишка x Feral House: The Process Church of the Final Judgment Collection

The Process Church of the Final Judgment was the apocalyptic shadow of the flower-powered ’60s and perhaps the most notorious cult of modern times. Participants of the Process were expected to pick within four different god forces that reflected their individual type. The four paths included: the Jehovans- courageous, disciplined, and ruthless self puritans who followed a wrathful god of vengeance and retribution, Satanists- disciples of violence, chaos, and lust who followed the receiver of transcendent souls and corrupt bodies, Lucifereans- self indulgent sensualists who followed the Light Bearer, and Christ- the unifier of all three.  These paths were to be adhered to wholeheartedly.

Scores of black-cloaked devotees swept the streets of New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, New Orleans and other cities selling magazines with titles like Sex, Fear, Love and Death. These magazines, often with purple, red, and black psychedelic graphics, contained the core of the Process theology and didn’t shy away from extreme and even controversial material. Another trademark of the magazine was it’s skilled and evocative design. From the articles, the covers and interior collages they were not only meant to evoke thought, but were unbelievable eye candy. Personalities like Marianne Faithfull, George Clinton and Mick Jagger participated in Process publications, and Funkadelic reproduced Process material in two of their albums.

The organization went on to open a 24 hour coffee house called Satan’s Cave as well as a bookshop, a lecture hall,  and Alpha Room, where Sabbath Assemblies were held.  Classes on telepathy, self-expression, and communication were taught and movies saturated with destruction and violence were run with discussion groups encouraged afterward.

The Process’ no-holds-barred theology brought on accusations of sinister conspiracies.

In 1969 both the Altamont concert riot and the infamous Manson family murders of marked the end of the 60’s free love hippie movements and people were left wondering what all went wrong. In 1971 Ed Sanders wrote the book “The Family” about Charles Manson and his followers where he falsely claimed The Process taught Manson all he knew.

The Process Church fought back with lawsuits to get the passages revoked from future printings, but the damage was already done.  Soon after The Process became more and more of clandestine organization which slowly began to fragment until it’s eventual demise.

In late 2009 Feral House Press released Love Sex Fear Death: The Inside Story of The Process Church of the Final Judgement. Written by original Process Church member Timothy Wyllie — is the first book to provide the astonishing inside story of this fascinating group and the mysterious woman at its center. Included are contributions from six other former members and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. The book also includes never-before-seen photographs and reproductions from rare Process publications.

Feral House has gotten together with us to recreate some of the amazing Process Church artwork that adorned their artistic publications. The Capsule consists of 3 T-shirts that faithfully reproduce the Process Church graphics via screenprint. All designs are available in either Black or White.

The Love Sex Fear Death collection will debut in early June on our website, our New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo shops, and a few select accounts worldwide. On June 1st, we will be throwing a dark and lavish release party for the collection at Santos Party House in Manhattan.

The celebration will be hosted by none other than Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and will feature a performance of rites and original Process Church songs by the Sabbath Assembly. Rounding out the evening we’ve brought in three of the best modern Grave Waver bands to keep the apocalyptic vibes flowing. Passions, White Ring and Blessure Grave will all be performing that evening along with DJ Sets by Star Eyes and Baryshnikov. We’ll be posting more details about the release party and all of the bands/acts involved in the next couple of days, so keep those eyes peeled to the Bloglin.

This will be a true spectacle and something we’re extremely excited to be a part of… We hope to see all of you in New York there on June 1st.

It’s nice to see Process stuff finally getting a little attention. I had been waiting for something, anything, to shed some light on this intriguing group for a decade, when Feral House (who else?) released Timothy Wyllie’s book. Ironically they themselves did not even seem to understand their alchemical view on the Apocalypse, naturally.
