Reserve LA Presents: NOMAG by Bruce Kalberg

I don’t know about you, but Reserve is easily one of my favorite shops in Los Angeles. Freshjive opened the shop in 2006 as their flagship, but they didn’t just build it to sell clothing… the store also host to a fantastic collection of rare and out-of-print books on graphic design, photography, and just all things pop culture that are all for sale.

Throughout the year they also house various exhibitions on their walls and they’re leading up to a new one right now! On June 3rd, Resreve will host an exhibition with Bruce Kalbag, the man behind NOMAG in the 80s. NOMAG content was heavily counter-culture based and filled with controversial contributions from some of LA’s most noted punk icons including Black Flag and Social Distortion. Without a NOMAG there would have been no VICE, Bruce and his publication were true trailblazers that capture the energy and enthusiasm of 80s punk movement.

Leading up to the show, Reserve has decided to take an issues of the magazine each week and have them available for the first time digitally for the whole world’s enjoyment! And if having it on screen just isn’t enough for you, Reserve will have some deadstock issues for sale at the June 3rd opening of Kalberg’s photo exhibit in the space.

I wish you could download a PDF of these, this viewer is kind of buggy. I’ll tolerate it of course, this is an amazing magazine.
