Store Spotting: Martin Starr is “Magnicifent!”
About a week back we got ourselves a real treat, Martin Starr dropped by 350 Broadway to say Hello. Greg and I had met and spent an evening with Martin a few years back while in San Diego. Since he was in town and just an all around awesome guy, Martin decided to pop in the shop and say hello.
If you don’t know who Martin Starr is, well shame on you… How could you not know and love Bill Haverchuck? You’ve really never seen Freaks and Geeks? Then please stop reading this, go to Amazon and buy the complete (and only) season of one of greatest shows ever on broadcast television.
Martin dropped by the shop with a friend, Matt Bush, who I recognized but couldn’t put my finger on from where… well not until way later that night. If that guy on the right looks familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve seen him countless times as the “Son” in AT&T’s long running FamilyTalk rollover minute commercial series. Well that and he was also in Adventureland along with Martin Starr.
Since Freaks & Geeks went off the air, Martin’s had supporting roles in loads of Judd Apatow films and as already mentioned, was in the pretty fantastic Adventureland last Summer. Currently he’s one of the stars in an ensemble cast in what’s is easily the funniest sitcom, since Curb Your Enthusiasm… Party Down. This shit’s all over Arrested Development when it comes to being smart and funny! ALL OVER I say! And this is from someone who liked AD.
Martin plays Roman DeBeers, who when he’s not working for the Party Down Catering Co. is busy writing some terrible “Hard Sci-Fi” screenplays.
Party Down is currently in it’s second season (Oh Mars has even started doing Re-Ups on each episode). I’m going to be so miserable if Party Down gets taken off the air! If you aren’t watching it, seriously start. It airs on Friday at 10pm on Starz, or if you have Netflix, they stream each new episode to Watch Instantly the following day. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s the funniest thing you’ll see on TV. It’s simply “Magnicifent!” And if you watched you’d know what that meant!
